Predator
1987 Directed by John McTiernan
Synopsis
If it bleeds, we can kill it...
Dutch and his group of commandos are hired by the CIA to rescue downed airmen from guerillas in a Central American jungle. The mission goes well but as they return they find that something is hunting them. Nearly invisible, it blends in with the forest, taking trophies from the bodies of it's victims as it goes along. Occasionally seeing through it's eyes, the audience sees it is an intelligent alien hunter, hunting them for sport, killing them off one at a time.

Predator is one of the penultimate 80's films. It's among the last great 80's actions films to come out in the tail end of the generation. One of the films that to this day still works as a time machine to take us to a time where action movies were fun, self aware, and cheesy as Hell.
I'd call Paris, Texas the BEST film of the 80's but I think Predator is one of the finest Action movies of the time period, matched only by director John McTiernan's other high octane action film, (do I even have to say it?) Die Hard. The two films are similar in the aspect that they both include high amounts of action, violence, the…

There is this shot in the beginning of this film where Ahnold shakes hands with Carl Weathers. The amount of biceps that fills the screen symbolises everything about this film.
This is from start to finish a professionally made and perfectly executed, testosterone filled muscle movie.
And I frickin' love it!

No matter how many times I watch this it get's better and better.
This is Arnold's best in my opinion, after the film finishes you end up either quoting/texting/Facebook/twitter etc...placing some of the best lines EVER in movie history, that someone out there will cherish.
Just one is missing "i'll be back" ;--(
The effects/action are top notch and like the so called fishy thing called 'Jaws', you don't see what the predator looks like until 40 odd minutes in.
The first time I watched this was in 1989 and the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through.
The blue ray transfer is top notch as I noticed the sweat pouring of Dillon's face through… -
You've seen it a hundred times...but it never loses its charm. This classic Arnie Sci-Fi Action-er sees a crack team of commandos on a rescue mission in the Central American jungle. The mission goes from bad to worse as they soon realise a dangerous alien predator is hunting them down. This is one of my favourite Arnie films. It's tense, fast paced and full to the brim with enough action and bullets to take down a small country. It has got some great shocks and splattered with some well-placed gore as the team gets picked off one by one. It's thrilling and will always withstand the test of time as one of the great Action Sci-Fi Thrillers of all time "GET TO DER CHARRPARR!" (Sorry, I couldn't resist!)

Predator is probably the most "pure" film ever made.
It's an action movie. Nothing more, nothing less.
And what a fucking action movie. The kind of which that just doesn't come around as much as it should. OK, so its not very subtle, and it's predictable. But Predator laughs in the face of these facts, and triumphs. It is so lean, so imaginative, and its villain so terrifying in its stalking, its impossible not to get involved in the action.
Predator just fucking rocks.

Why did I wait so long to see this one? Awesome.
Funny story from Arnold's excellent memoir: He was scheduled to marry Maria while he was filming this picture. He was down in the jungle covered in the freezing cold mud from the end of the movie -- on the day before the wedding.
He only just barely made it back in time.

Wow. What can be said about this film that hasn't already been said? Awesome stuff.

One of my favourite movies of all time. It really has everything. I think it could be used as a quintessential example of 80's action/sci-fi cinema.

Just 10 minutes into this sci-fi action film, it's clear this is familiar, testosterone fuelled, action territory with the sight of Arnold Schwarzenegger sporting in a tight t-shirt, heavy stubble, chomping a cigar and giving the toughest high-five to Carl Weathers you've ever seen, muscles bulging off the screen.
Yes, it's time for Arnie to step up once more as a US Special Forces leader to infiltrate a rebel compound in South America and resuce kidnapped hostages. It's almost like a serious version of what 'The Expendables' could have been with the tough 80s star line up working with Arnie. We have Jesse Ventura (former 'Running Man co-star), Bill Duke (former 'Commando' co-star), Sonny Landham, Shane "Lethal Weapon" Black and…

A movie should not be allowed to be this good. Every thing is perfect . Though I know whats going to happen I never fail to feel pumped up while watching this. I never fail to mouth the lines. If you cut this movie it would bleed pure kickbutt.
I even still wonder who long tall Sally is. Apparently she has everthing that Uncle John needs. And this movie will have everything you need, Oh baby, yes, baby Ooh baby, havin' me some fun tonight! -
Predator is a film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as Arnold Schwarzenegger and some other people as they are hunted in the jungle. This feels like the essential 80's action flick, containing the things that make 80's action films so interesting and unique.
- Stereotypical characters
- Chessy dialogue and one liners
- Outdated and laughably bad effects, mixed in with great ones.
- At least one shot of something blowing up behind someone and them flying out.
There are several others, but I think I'm a little too tired to go on -
The purest blend of action, thriller and sci-fi ever made. My favorite Arnold film and one of the few films I could watch indefinitely. Fantastic cast, great effects and a truly terrifying villain.
Budget: $15 million

Is this the greatest 80's movie ever made? Yes
Can you consider yourself a Man if you havent seen this? No
Predator is all of the glorious shoot everything up, blow everything up, cigar chomping, arm wrestling action you could ever ask for, and its simply incredible. Ahnuld is fantastic, like always, his choppuh fetish remains intact, and his squadmates add just the right about of testosterone and manliness to make you feel like your watching the greatest movie ever made
Just remember kids, if you cant watch this movie, you might as well hand in your man cards now, cause where we're going, we aint got time to bleed

A pure, powerhouse piece of action cinema. Every sinew of the film strains under the immense weight of primal, explosive machismo, with a small side dish of homoeroticism.
The jungle itself is as ominous as the beast that hunts them, steamy and dense, it becomes a character of its own, beautifully captured by McTiernan.
Also great are the strong, simple characterisations attributed to each character, enabling us to care just enough as they get torn to shreds.
