Stories about women. I originally started this list just as a reference for myself, but hopefully others will find it…
She only dated men with money... until she met a man with a heart.
A beautiful young gold-digger mistakes a lowly hotel clerk as a rich and therefore worthwhile catch.
My partner sometimes wants to watch romcoms. Except she (correctly) hates all British or American ones.
Due to this, we ended up watching Hors De Prix (Priceless) and it was just so much better than I was expecting. Fun, anarchic and mostly just quite silly. Thoroughly enjoyable and not as instantly forgettable as a Richard Curtis movie.
A very charming and witty romantic comedy about a gold-digger who teams up with a hotel waiter to woo the rich so they can live a lavish lifestyle.
If a movie is certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes then I always give it a chance, and that's what I did with this film. Well Priceless is one thing and that's definitely not fresh. Next year I've decided I'm going to watch through loads of Rotten Tomatoes certified fresh films and see how good they really are. Priceless is painfully boring, generic, and really not that great. It also has one of the most generic endings that we've seen in so many rom-com's before. The characters aren't really that interesting, to be honest they are pretty annoying and not likeable. There's not enough for you to actually grow to like them. In the end Priceless is a film that just bored me, it bought nothing new to the rom-com genre and didn't do anything to stand out, it was just another generic one with a lot of the same things that we have seen before.
A lot of American actors and actresses could learn a thing about RomComs by watching this. Tautou and Elmaleh are nothing short of fantastic in their roles. This is a rare beast... a RomCom that both sexes will like.
Romcom with a bit of bite that reminds me a little of Preston Sturges and his war of the sexes screwball comedies. The characters in this film do completely immoral things but it's always with such a charming smile that you have to enjoy it. A lot of fun.
French people in France, being chic and entertaining and French and stylish and alluring and did I already mention French. Priceless indeed.
A decent French romcom added with familiar Tautou face
This review reportedly contains spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Antes.
High-class gold diggers have feelings too!
The first half of Priceless feels like a very formulaic comedy that hits all of the notes you'd expect it to. Man pretends to be rich to meet the girl of his dreams, she's cartoonishly shallow, then hijinks ensue. I was really let down... until about the 45 minute mark when the tone changes. Audrey Tautou and Gad Elmaleh decide to team up and both start gold-digging in competition with each other and the film gets far more fun and interesting. Both Tautou and Elmaleh are very charismatic actors and their chemistry is adorable and believable. The full movie turns out to be just a notch above your typical romantic comedy and worth checking out if you're a big fan of either of the leads.
One of those overly-bright French comedies that are amusing, beautiful but largely empty.
As frothy and light as a glass of bubbly. Tautou is a delight as always.

Original Title: Hors De Prix
Vorhersehbar, aber schön und unterhaltsam.
I'm a sucker for romantic comedies, especially foreign flicks
Apparently, two-person, monomagous relationships just aren't interesting enough for some filmmakers. I'm okay with that.
