Reviews of Punisher: War Zone 2008

The best punisher film so far

Any movie that makes me laugh this much deserves full points. This is definitely Frank Castle the way he should be - over the top, brutal, and just plain sick, with a little emo-angst thrown in for good measure. I've never seen Dominic West better as Jigsaw, and between him and Stevenson, there's never any lack of insanity to be had. Enjoy.

How can a movie both be completely and utterly underrated in addition to being a shameful, ugly guilty pleasure? I don't know, but this movie fills both roles to a T.

Screw the cynics.
Punisher: War Zone is quite possibly the greatest comic book adaptation we have gotten so far.
Roger Ebert said that Punisher War Zone looked great, sounded great and was paced amazingly. But he said its only flaw was that it was disgusting. If that's a flaw, I will accept that in stride. I've seen some crazy shit reading the Punisher back in the day. I've seen him slaughter a group of widows and slide an ice pick…

Still the best Punisher to date. I really don't think enough people have seen this movie and have given it a chance, because it's really good. It's the closest thing to the actual comic book, and you finally get a villain that's interesting enough to carry that portion of the movie. The side characters are all interesting (minus Doctor Moon from Silence in the Library) and the action is gory and worthy of an R rating. My only complaint is…

It is a shame this was a box office bomb, although given how out there it is, we probably shouldn't be surprised. It's simply a blast to watch as it's so wacky and outrageous and over the top, I can't help but dig it. The film is certainly bold in presenting scenes shaded in various colors, for sure, but it also brings the action and there are some great bits.
