Adrenaline Rush, Adrenaline Rush 3D, 퀵, Шустрый, 快递惊魂, מהיר, 快遞驚魂, クイック!!
With the helmet his ex-girlfriend is wearing rigged to explode, a motorcycle courier must deliver a series of bombs in a wheel burning effort that will be reminescent of everything from Taxi to Torque before firmly following in the tire tracks of Speed.
For the dozen automotive movies it draws from, Quick owes its largest debt to Tidal Wave (2009). The tsunami disaster movie followed the romances of three couples, the youngest of which - Lee Min-ki and Kang Ye-won - reprise their chemistry as our would-be couple in peril. Along with the duo, Tidal Wave's jealous / buffoonish comic relief, Kim In-kwon, plays a very similar foil. Car pile-ups, exploding buildings, runaway trains - Quick leans towards the disaster…
The Quick and the Dead
Oh No! It looks like the fun police have gotten a hold of 'Quick' and have deemed it's fast paced action and laugh out loud comedy to be highly illegal! Don't let the fun police catch you watching this bad boy or you'll find yourself on a one way trip to the slammer! 'Quick' is an immersive, adrenaline fueled experience with little to know downtime... what's not to love? I Seriously don't understand how anyone could hate this film. Sure the plot is derivative of 'Speed' but 'Quick' is still very much it's own thing and the action is terrific. The action is an excellent mix of practical motorbike stunts and CGI. You're able to…
Am I slogging through an unlucky streak, or have Korean movies taken a sharp turn downwards in quality in the last few years? One has to wonder. Quick is in either case just the latest example of cinematic torture from the peninsula I've subjected myself to. Never really deciding whether it wants to be a Speed style thriller or a hysterical comedy, Quick foolishly attempts to ride both horses simultaneously and fails miserably. While I thought the thriller elements were okay, I L-O-A-T-H-E-D the comedy bits.
Now, comedy often travels famously poorly, so I'm willing to accept that it may be a case of cultural differences at play here. However, I have enjoyed Korean comedies just fine in the past……
Loud and full of action = my kind of movie. The version I watched was the UK version which has been cut done by almost 30 minutes eliminating a lot of the character exposition and introducing characters into chases with no explanation of how they got there. It keeps the action fast and steady, like if Stephen Chow was to direct Speed, its often hilariously funny.
The story is not very believable and it gets a bit slapstick at times, which largely adds to the fun of the entire proceedings, but the fast-paced action helps to balance the tone of the film, with some inventive chase sequences and the stunts were just as incredible as the action sequences. The stunning…
A South Korean motorcycle take on Speed that is as much an action thriller as it's a comedy which works half the time and thus makes for decent entertainment but can't elevate itself to the levels of grandiose mandatory fun one HAS to seek out, due to its unevenness and classic SK running time, aka too friggin' long, which isn't worth a lot when the characters stay their over the top, comedy caricature selves and the story doesn't have any depth either.
What do you get when you take the antagonist from the movie Phonebooth, and the action from Speed. You get the South Korean action drama film, Quick. Lee Min Ki plays Han a motorcycle courier that is just trying to escape his motorcycle gang life. When one day someone rigs his helmet to a bomb, from here on out Han has to complete deliveries to keep the bomb from going off on his head. An interesting concept, but I feel this movie gets bogged down by the senseless melodramatic story. At times they knew what kind of film they were making and bought into the unhinged nature of this film, but when they tried to get serious this film screeched to a hault. It’s still a fun film. I would just prefer if it was 30 minutes shorter.
The mix of green-screen and practical stunts is confusing. People clearly got hurt throughout production (it's all shown in the credits) but everything looks so fake. Unlike the super-serious Hong Kong action flick, Shock Wave that we watched for the podcast last year, Quick is supposed to be playing for laughs but doesn't quite work.
If you enjoy Luc Besson's Taxi movies but fancied watching something shitter, you should totally give Quick a bash.
We'll be covering Quick along with Quick Change and The Quick and the Dead on the 30th May episode of the Sudden Double Deep podcast. Please check us out!

Quick isn't going to be fielding any surprises your way, but it works. It tells the story of a top-notch motorcycle courier and a jilted ex-fling who get trapped as pawns by a voice over a telephone forcing them to deliver bombs all over the city while the police are trying to both track them down and the mastermind they suspect to be behind it.
It's of course fully predictable, but is full of comedy which is done decently enough to keep it entertaining. The chase sequences are ludicriously over the top, as is most of the acting, but it never becomes cringe-worthy. Overall, it remains enjoyable as a thoroughly light hearted movie.
The only trouble might be in that…
Tubi, you really do have the most awesome free selection of randomly bizarre late night viewing fare. I continue to applaud you.
Quick is relentlessly silly. I admire how dedicated the film is to keeping up that pace. It actually makes things a little tedious. It also made me wonder how the Korea in that movie-world could function as a country, as every single organization and company appears to be run by unprofessional, emotionally unstable, flibbertigibbets. The mix of CGI and practical effects leads to some hilariously over-the-top action scenes, but it's a waste of some proficient stunt work and pyrotechnics—it all looks so cartoony in the end anyway. Still, not too shabby overall. Decently fun.
A rebellious motorcycle gang member causes a lethal pile-up during Independence Day celebrations. Six years later, he's now settled down as a motorbike courier but his past is about to catch up with him when he is forced to deliver bombs all over Seoul or his helmet will explode. Cue lots of car crashes and impossible stuntwork. Most of which is very good but there are some obvious CGI and green screen work.
Korean Speed!
Some great ideas executed awfully.
Some really cool shots sitting between consistently awful ones.
Edited by someone with adhd.
Unnecessarily over complicated plotting.
Absolutely fucking hilarious!
A really good one to watch with beers and friends!
