Race to Nowhere is a film containing stories of young people across the country who have been pushed to the brink, educators who are burned out and worried that students aren’t developing the skills they need, and parents who are trying to do what’s best for their children.

Part of my ongoing education about American education, this documentary is interesting in that it never received (or cared for) mainstream distribution – my friend and I went to see it at a local high school viewing, of which I read there have been many ever since the premiere in 2009.
Race to nowhere talks about the pressures of today’s younger students: ever-increasing expectations, extracurricular activities, AP classes, test preparations, and a lot, a lot of homework. All in all, tons of precious childhood hours spent in class or in front of a computer – and the rest spent in constant stress.
It’s an interesting subject, complementary to a bit more recent Waiting for Superman, and the questions Race to…
