Rammbock: Berlin Undead
2010 ‘Rammbock’ Directed by Marvin Kren
Synopsis
Run. Hide. Survive.
When lovelorn Michael arrives in Berlin to return a set of keys to his ex-girlfriend, Gabi, as an excuse to see her again, he finds her apartment empty save for a couple of plumbers making repairs to the central heating. Just as Michael learns from the plumber’s apprentice, Harper, that Gabi has popped out for a while but will return soon, the apprentice is attacked by his boss who has unexpectedly and inexplicably transformed into a raging madman. Together, Michael and Harper manage to bundle the crazed plumber out of the apartment and barricade themselves safely inside. Within minutes, they find themselves trapped in apartment block under siege from a horde of similarly insane people, apparently hungry for human flesh.

A short and simple zombie film that doesn't test your patience but also isn't quite worth your time. Michael (Michael Fuith) arrives in Berlin in a desperate attempt to savor his relationship with Gabi (Anka Graczyk), but when he arrives he is trapped in her apartment with Harper (Theo Trebs), a teenaged plumber's apprentice, by zombies. And at only an hour long, it had all the makings to be a short and sweet fun time; but in spite all of its outrageousness, it is strangely humorless. Its hero is an overweight, overly-sensitive lovesick puppy and the flash of cameras becomes their savior. Yet it is so seriously toned and excessively attempts to be emotional resonant that it just isn't that entertaining. Although, director Malvin Kren does show some directional and atmospheric talent.

Let's face it-zombie movies aren't really about the zombies. It's about the poor bastards who haven't been bitten yet and how they get by during the zombie apocalypse that intrigues most of us. ThinkAssault On Precint 13 but with re-animated corpses. Other than the way various movies portray zombies (fast, slow, mutated, goofy), you can pretty much watch most ZoMovies back-to-back and imagine it as episodes in a global outbreak. Your own World War Z if you will.
In Rammbock, we get yet another microcosm of daily life disrupted by the undead, this time in a German apartment block. But taking place in Germany is beside the point. We see how each apartment's residents are managing in their isolation from one another and how they slowly band together through their open windows. And other times, how they fuck each other over. Still human, after all.

A decent zombie flick, good story and believable characters and only 61 minutes long but the I found the main character super annoying. Being stuck in a zombie apocalypse with a dude wallowing over an ex-girlfriend who dumped him would be a whole other kinda hell.

A short and excellent serious zombie movie from Germany. This isn't ZOMBIELAND.
While watching the end of this film, I realized what makes zombie movies so good: Firstly, the writer and director can say a lot about what they think of the world and society with the tone and the end of the film. Secondly, by the end of the movie, any and all of the characters can be dead. When being introduced to your characters in a zombie movie, anyone could be undead by the end. This movie is no exception. -
My 3rd zombie film in less then a week and the best one so far. What sets this one apart from the other two is that the characters are far more realistic and act totally different from most zombie movies. First off no one has any guns in this movie, in fact I don't think any of the main characters make any attempt at fighting with the zombies. They simply try to survive.

I had heard a few good things about Rammbock for some time now, so when I found it for $7 or so I jumped on the chance to pick it up. I appreciated the small sliver of originality found in the film in a genre that's been beaten to death over the last few years. There's not much I can say bad about the movie. You can tell it has a small budget, but for the most part, it's not a hindrance. The only thing that was truly odd was the short, short runtime. It feels like there was a little bit more that could have been explored with Michael and his German friends when the credits hit at the 58 minute mark. Anyway, Rammbock: Berlin Undead is a solid zombie film and one worth seeking out. It's fun, and won't take up much of your time.

Very short and has fast zombies which is a sin of course but is still a fine "seen it all before" zombie film.

A gun-free German zombie film that moderately inventive and plenty claustrophobic. It gets a bit slow at times near the beginning, but I enjoyed the grounded feel. At only an hour long it's worth a look for a quick stream.
The farther I got into the film the more parallels I began to find between this and the recent Walking Dead game. I started to wonder whether the writers of that saw this.

Not sure what to say, this movie was um... interesting. The movie was predictable, it wasn't bad. It felt bland. This wasn't the best and it surely wasn't the worst. It just felt like a meh... bland movie.

Very cool little zombie flick! Probably the best german-language horror film I remember seeing. (Not that there's much competition)

A nice twist on the "28 Days Later" vibe. And easy to stream in just over an hour.
