Part of the No Rewatch November 2012 Project.
One of the most disappointing sequels I've ever seen, this one starts out with some decent ideas and then just pissed them all away on claptrap plotting and poor appreciation for the genre. While the first is among the upper tier of zombie films, this one is such a dramatic drop off that making it all the way through was a real chore.
There were some things I really liked. I'll start with those.
I liked the camera-on-helmet idea and how it was used. I also loved that it picked up right where the last one left off. Far too few sequels do this and it's wonderful when done well. And it…

Following off from its glorious predecessor REC 2 may fail in comparison, but it continues a fine horror series. The film seamlessly balances a multi-perspective, non-linear narrative which strengthens the found footage format. While it clings a little too closely to the religion for my taste, it is a thoroughly engaging and frightening film.

[Recorded mini marathon - Part 2]
After the semi-disappointment that was [REC], I was eager to check out the sequel with adjusted expectations.
Sure enough, I enjoyed this much more than the original. It still doesn't do anything new with the genre, but like the first film its adherence to genre conventions really is its strength. Sometimes it's nice to see a genre film without pretentions to be something more, or to subvert the genre - and that's what [REC]² does.
If the first was a "house of horrors" ride, with zombies popping out from behind doors, walls, and coming from the roof and the protagonists running away to save themselves, [REC]² is more like a whack-a-mole. The SWAT team…

A perfect extension of the first film, Rec 2 ups the fire power, as well as the complexity of the story. Everytime I watch this I dread the point where the film resets, and everytime it is never as bad as I remembered. The fact that the kids are supposed to be annoying works for the film, and the scene where the one kid gets slapped is awesome. Really it is hard to say much more about the film. It delivers, even on rewatch, a great spook house experience, and I can't ask more than that.

[REC]2 is what Aliens is to alien, an even do is not as intense as [REC], is still very entertaining and fast pace.

Inferior to its predecessor on all levels.
The problem here is that this film tries to be too clever and tie in everything neatly with the first part. That is unnecessary and just doesn't work. At all. The plot is awful. It starts explaining everything from the get go and keeps doing that for its entire running time. It's like how explaining a joke takes away the comedy, here it takes away the mystery and the suspense. There is also a switch in narrative perspective which is unnecessary as it doesn't add anything at all.
Where the first part had clever use of the camera, here it all feels contrived and just doesn't work at all. It's as if they used…

Interesting new concept but not as chilling or as memorable as the first [REC].

This felt a lot like Grave Encounters 2 to me. In the sense that it's virtually the same as its predecessor, but not nearly as good and with new elements that are sometimes just silly. Instead of the infection being a zombie like virus, we learn that it actually stems from demon possession-which I thought was dumb. This sequel didnt have the real scares, suspense or creepiness that the first created so nicely. Every "scare" was just an infected person in the distance that eventually runs toward the camera, it became too predictable and repetitive. This had more of an action feel with horror elements. The positives-good effects and gore, I really liked the underground tunnels and wish they were used more and the ending was interesting. So, I didn't love this like I expected too, but it wasn't terrible and is worth atleast one watch.

I watched REC and REC2 back-to-back, which is actually how I recommend watching them because the plotlines line up perfectly. Very enjoyable.

REC 2 comes 3 years after the original and continues the story of the strange viral outbreak within an apartment block. Now the police send in swat teams, armed with cameras as well as firearms, to bring control to the situation. Unfortunately the situation spirals out of control and brings us a very worthy sequel in the process. Shot in virtually the same style the film increases the action and attempts to offer some explanations. One thing for sure it’s a thrilling ride culminating in a suitably apt ending.

A superior found footage, horror sequel that's even creepier than the original at times. Rec 2 starts just minutes after the first film ends and completely retains the chaotic, claustrophobic feel of Rec while adding some new, demonic twists.

Holy shit - this was amazing! Like, better than the first Rec amazing and I thought that was pretty damn mind-blowing the first time I saw it. This one expands on the story and the clues the characters stumble upon at the end of the first movie - in fact it picks up right where the first movie ends and the transition is seamless. Some of the shots and imagery is so frightening - I jumped so many times. And it had a perfect ending. I'm so fan-girling right now over this franchise. These remain the standard for how to do a found footage and a virus outbreak movie right.
