While watching the 2012 remake of this movie, I constantly was thinking that I loved the original and this pile of shit is near abortion-like. Then, I kept thinking that maybe I was mistaken on how much I loved the original. Then when some friends told me that the original was shit, I was almost starting to tell them to get fucked, until I realized that I couldn't remember anything about the original aside from the stars of the film. So I completely forgot about this for the last few months, until I saw this was playing next on Starz one afternoon, and I figured I'd give it a shot.
For starters, I will say that it's immensely better than…

A touchstone in 80s propaganda. Has to be seen to actually believe. The longer this film ages the more alienating and absurd yet profound it becomes. A spectacle like few I've seen, experiencing Red Dawn can only enlighten future generations at this point. "Aveeeenge me!"

Studio exec #1: Hey, have the russians invaded yet?
Studio exec #2: No.
Studio exec #1: Wanna taunt'em?
Studio exec #2: Hell yeah. Hey, let's put the guy from Conan the Barbarian on the case.
This is how I imagine that Red Dawn came to be. America and the Soviet Union were still stuck in the middle of the Cold War and this movie's themes are, at the very least, suspicious regarding the time when it was made. The political background is so loud and in-your-face that the plot has to hold for dear life during the 114 minutes of the movie to keep the illusion going, a task that it fails miserably. As much as the script tries to… -
WOLVERINES!! I love this movie. Yes it has some script problems. Where was the army during the invasion? They kind of talked about it but not enough. Something I hope they do in the remake is to show more of the rest of America. Cause they do talk about them attacking more but all they really show is this small town. Also I would have liked a bit more monologue at the end. Who won the war? What happened? Character development could have been a bit better but still. This does feel a bit like a product of the time but since I am watching it post 9/11 the idea of foreign countries attacking America seems possible. Seriously in some…

Swayze again. Another rather crappy eighties film.
A crazy plot that has America invaded by wait for it-Nicaraguan,Cuban and Russian soldiers. Swayze and some other teenagers manage to escape into the mountains where they become freedom fighters -woo hoo.
A movie made at the height of the nuclear arms race between the US and The Soviets this showed America's paranoia gone mad. Everyone is a commie. Oh no who will save us? Step forward Marty Mcfly's mum and crazy Charlie who drinks tiger blood. Yep this is as realistic as it gets. Even Jennifer Gray before she became "Baby" in Dirty Dancing totes a rocket launcher. Fuck me this is stupid. Silly, jingoistic and gung-ho this was pretty pants. Hard to believe that this was regarded as the most violent film ever by the Guinness Book Of Records back in 1984. -
In one way it is quite nice to be transported to 1984, even if only for two hours. This film however is about confirming all the very worst fears of that uneasy moment: The now-fallen Soviet Union has disabled America's nuclear defenses with strategic nuclear strikes; Soviet proxies, specifically the Castro tyranny and the Sandinista dictatorship, have invaded through Mexico using illegal immigrants in the South of the U.S. as enabling agents; and though there is resistance, more than half the country has fallen under Communist domination. (Though we were only five years from the total implosion of the U.S.S.R.'s Empire in the East, the C.I.A. was reporting the Soviets were entering their golden age, and all suspicions were that…

Red Dawn is one of the most over exaggerated war films that I have ever seen. Yet there is something so appealing about it, that you can't dismiss it as crap. Starring Patrick Swayze, Lea Thompson and C Thomas Howell, Red Dawn presents a total extravagant plot, the invasion of the United States by Soviet Russia. A small group of teens ban together to repel the invaders. The film is preposterous, but it's a film filled with awesome action and is very entertaining. What makes the film work so well is the talented cast. Patrick Swayze delivers a great performance and so does Lea Thompson. The film is non stop entertainment and will definitely thrill you. The film is not…

This one just didn't do it for me, I guess. It's certainly a good premise, but beyond that, I dunno.

Well, that's the last time I watch anything because the remake of it stars Chris Hemsworth and I want to have the full backstory before I glory in him.
Intensely crazy paranoid propaganda that feels like it was made in North Korea. Only about us. Like, if we were North Koreans. This review is almost as bad as the film.

Milius' gift to young adults.

The idea of Red Dawn sounded good and didn't start off too badly, but it just seemed to drag on with not much to keep itself that interesting.
The acting was decent at best, and is most likely none of the actor's or actress' best. There's lots of forced moments where you're supposed to feel some sort of emotion for what is happening to the character's, but most of those scenes are just failed attempts at doing so. There quite a few plot holes and whatnot, but most likely even if those plot holes were filled, it wouldn't make any difference to how dull this film in American propaganda can be.

I know this is pure American propaganda, but I really like the story of a bunch of kids going to the mountains to survive an invasion.

80's action films were all about ridiculous action sequences, effects and fun. That proves true with Red Dawn as Patrick Swayze and some high school kids end World War III.
