Redline
2010 Directed by Takeshi Koike
Synopsis
The most dangerous and exciting car race in the universe is held only once every five years. And that's tonight. The competitors are lined up at the starting block. In his vehicle, JP, the most daredevil driver on the circuit, is ready for the green light. Female driver Sonoshee, with whom he is secretly in love, is also on the starting line. She will stop at nothing to get on to that podium. In this race, not only is anything possible, but also anything is allowed. In fact, their adversaries have modified their vehicles to equip them with highly destructive weapons; with such participants, it is hardly surprising that Redline is forbidden by the authorities, who will try anything to halt the proceedings. These speed addicts have to put themselves in mortal danger to achieve their aim: eternal glory for those who finally mount the podium.

Redline is hands down some of the best animation to come out of Japan in the last decade and will leave you hyped and on edge through every adrenaline-pumping race in this film. This is wacky races on steroids.
Redline has a very simplistic plot of a number of races around the universe which take place every few years using cars which are now 'old fashioned'. However, these races are outlawed and extremely dangerous to participate in. The focus on any back story of the 80s-style protagonist, JP, is done well and sparingly, leaving out any boredom and allowing you to stay engaged and in the moment.
One thing I really enjoyed was the environment these races were set in…

Holy shit, what just happened?
Watching Redline with subtitles is like trying to speed read a paper on the theory of thermodynamics as it applied to nuclear fusion while reversing a truck at 80 mph into a tornado.
But don't let that deter you - because though the story plays out more like an episode from the middle of a series you've never seen the rest of, it is full to burst with classic over the top late 80's anime retro charm and A grade production values. It's no classic, but as a watch once spectacle - it's 100% awesome.

Fricking awesome. there are few good animations that are good, but this one is just awesome....

I love Redline. What the movie lacks in plotting it makes up for with great characters and some of the best damn animation I've ever seen.
Redline is fun, sexy, and cool as hell from start to finish. If you are even remotely a fan of anime, you better check this movie out.

REDLINE is pretty much pornography for animation lovers. This movie spent 7 years in development, and pretty much all of that went into making sure the animation looked as good as possible.
And it does. Oh, it does.
The story is very straightforward, there's very little deep or taxing, so if you're expecting anything like that, you'll be disappointed. This movie is ALL about the spectacle. The animation is astonishingly fluid, complementing the exaggerated characters and the high-octane action perfectly. Of course it's not perfect; it drags at times and the ending kind of sucks, but overall it's a fantastic representation of Japanese animation at its craziest and most visually stunning.

+ I'm interested
- Obviously wishes it was a shit Japanese arcade game
- Weak soundtrack that sounds like toy commercials
- Not very creative; it does mecha bots and giant monsters like every other Japanese cartoon
- Characters were only varied by their colours instead of their personalitesIt's shit if you liked Speed Racer and if you didn't enjoy Speed Racer then avoid and all costs.

If you combined Fast and Furious, Star Wars, and Saints Row the Third into one film....it would pretty closely resemble Redline. This anime is so insanely over the top it's actually really hard not to fall for it's charm. The animation is incredibly detailed, the style is just so original and it exudes in every frame of the film. The humour is nonstop and almost every joke is absolutely hilarious. The story is ridiculous and escalates every single second you continue watching it. While everything is so insane and over the top, the main characters are likeable and enjoyable enough to help you find your sanity and keep you invested and excited. I don't even know what to say about…

Pure entertainment. An absolute blast. Watch it for fun and to feel uplifted.

The story was so-so, but the visuals and characters were crazy. Was not expecting it to be as good as it ended up being.

So damned weird, but I'm totally okay with this.

REDLINE invites you to a world of (beyond) high-speed racing. Machines driven beyond orthodox understandings of gravity and physics. Engines pushing themselves to the brink of their drivers physical-capacity. Speed-stripes isn't cutting it anymore and colorful is an understatement. In the world of Redline racing meets anime to form a ridiculous world of rocket-engineering and asphalt destruction.
The film starts of in the end parts of an ongoing race. There are animal humanoid creatures, robots and some vanilla Homo sapiens on the track blazing towards the finish-line. Our protagonist, sweet JP, one of to humans in the race, drops a pill-like fuel-source into his tank to accelerate his speed and zig-zags between his opponents for a chance of being the… -
