I've got a confession to make...I hated Titanic.
Aside from the pure spectacle of it all (which even that didn't impress me much) I didn't see what the big deal was. I wasn't even all that wowed by Leo and Kate in it. I mean, they were good, but not as good as people claimed they were. When this was being hyped up as the big reunion of the Titanic stars, I wasn't exactly "thrilled" or anything. So, the first time I saw it, I went in with low, low, LOW expectations. Not only was I floored completely by their performances and the film itself, but this has grown to become a favorite of mine.
Sam Mendes once again does…

Rose (Kate Winslet) is a broken woman. The only man she’s ever truly loved is dead and, deep down, she knows it’s her fault. Her fiancé has gone, taking all of her wealth with him, and she knows she’ll never see her Mother again. She’s crippled with pneumonia, having almost frozen to death in the Atlantic Ocean, and she can’t shake the feeling that if only she hadn’t been so selfish and allowed Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) to share the door with her, he would still be alive. She’s traumatised and she can’t take it for another second. In her despair, she retreats into a World of fantasy, lost to reality forever more. Jack may be dead but that doesn’t…

Perhaps the most underappreciated Hollywood film of the last several years. A brilliant realization of a novel on the level of Gatsby, Lolita, and Sirens of Titan with career best performances from DiCaprio, Winslet, and the remarkable Michael Shannon. I've seen it only once since it's such a hard experience to relive, but it shook me to my core and hasn't left my thoughts for long since. In short, a masterpiece.

This review reportedly contains spoilers. I can handle the truth.

A film that will rank very high whenever I get around to making a list of 100 Personal Favorite Films, Sam Mendes' adaptation of the classic Peter Yates novel, is still, in my opinion, the crowning achievement in the director's impressive career. I hope this movie will gain more acclaim and recognition as time goes on, but as for now the only thing regularly taken away by most as greatness from the movie is Michael Shannon's stunning supporting performance. Yes, he is fantastic and deserved the nomination he received, but he is just one aspect among many that are flawless about Revolutionary Road.
I've ranted and raved about this film on several occasions over the last five years, so I…

Well made and well acted (love both the leads), but, along with The Road, one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen. It's another one of those movies in a genre I like to call "Suburban Hell," along with films like Little Children and Happiness. Hard not to like any Sam Mendes movie, though.

A very good portrait of a relationship and the things that drive it when the people involved are not. It was great to see Leo and Kate together for this, it certainly has a feel of how the actual relationship of them would've gone had they survived their last movie together. Having kids just to have them and being together just because it's what they know.

La película más terrorífica que he visto jamás. Y una puñalada metalinguística tremenda a Titanic. Que cabrón Mendes...

Oh.
My.
God.Sam Mendes, you have done it again!
Revolutionary Road is a fantastic movie about the young Wheelers couple, depicted wonderfully by DiCaprio and Winslet, who are seemingly desperate to escape the standard life in the suburbs. Some of the scenes in the movie are so emotionally gripping and at times painful to watch, but it's almost impossible to look away because of Sam Mendes' directing and the marvelous acting from both Winslet and DiCaprio. The movie is also uplifted by the wonderful score from Thomas Newman, a score that is very similar to American Beauty's score. If you have not seen Revolutionary Road, I would highly recommend you to watch it if you're in the mood for an emotional and painful drama.
5/5 Stars.
(btw: is uplifted even a word?)

Very enjoyable and well-crafted melodrama (if perhaps a little unremarkable). Michael Shannon steals the show.

What happens when you shove two of the greatest acting talents alive together with one of the greatest directors alive, the answer is perfection. Its a very simple narrative concept but it is pulled off perfectly through the actors and the masterful direction of Sam Mendes. DiCaprio and Winslet control the screen, they are absolutely fantastic in this delivering believable and very powerful performances, a career high for both. The supporting cast is great as well with Michael Shannon, in particular, dominating the scenes he is in. The cinematography and music is typical of a Mendes film and is absolutely perfect as per usual, some choices of the music are highly effective at setting the mood for the period much…

Michael Shannon steals every scene he's in.

"What if" sequel to Titanic. For some reason they renamed the characters and made it take place 60s. Pretty stupid. Don't know how Sam Mendes fucked that up, should have just had James Cameron makes this.
