The first Robocop is good, but probably the Robocop nostalgia makes me feel that it's GREAT! This one has the Robocop nostalgia, combined with a cheesy-dark humour that makes it quite entertaining and giggle inducing.
BUT...
The story is packed full of nonsense and it looks wrong. Robocop is too shiny, too camp, too Kryten. The effects and camera work don't look as good as they did in the original, although I do like the neon graffiti ghetto-scape.
Expensive but cheap looking Sci-Fi-Comedy.

With most sequels it's pointless to state that it's not as good as the original. A sequel that surpasses the original in terms of script-plot-directing-acting is rare-it HAS happened but if you consider how many sequels have been made in the history of film the ones that DO surpass the original make up a small percentage.
Robocop 2 is not even close to the brilliance of the first film-but it's a hell of a fun time to watch. You just have to come to terms with it going in a new direction-it does hold on to many of the wonderful things established in the first film-the commercials-the news broadcasts-the violence-the feeling that the city of Detroit is from another Universe-Robo's…

There is something in computer science called a “second-system effect.” It describes how versions 2.0 of successful products are usually bloated, inelegant, filled with all the bad ideas and unnecessary features that never made it in time for 1.0.
That obviously describes RoboCop 2 the cyborg, with its sheer scale, weapon overload, three-dimensional animations of its host, the cute little remote, and even the upgrade to the Mac-like user-interface. If RoboCop 2 came in a box, those would be some good-looking bullet points.
Unfortunately, it also describes the movie. The original RoboCop was sharp and witty. This one is a big display of oneupmanship missing the entire point. More crazy TV ads? Check. 250 directives? Why not. One terribly botched…

ok so its inferior but its still a big mad awesome bastard of a movie. drug addicted cyborgs and a torture scene that predates Hostel and Saw by over ten years.

20 minutes longer with the craziness dialled up to 11 doesn't necessarily mean it can be as good. It misses the point entirely to be honest.
Without Verhoeven and with Frank Millar wrting an over the top script it misses the point of what made the original so great. The regression in the character from the end of the first to the start of this doesn't make much sense either. More over the top violence, a child villain for shock value and little else. Kershner directing is probably the most important thing the film has going for it because with a lesser talent this would be even worse
We do get a great scrap between Robocop and Robocop 2 that…

Man do I miss Verhoeven. No one does action/sci-fi like him. This film is passable but a weak imitation of the Verhoeven masterpiece. I love Verhoeven. I love writing his name. Verhoeven. Verhoeven? Am I spelling it correctly? Verhoeven.

Naturally not as good or stylish as the first film but still an entertaining action romp.

RoboCop 2 is a pretty good sequel. No, it isn't as bloody, smart or good as the first one, and yes, the villain is weaker and the action is more cartoonish, but I still really like it. It's funny, the action scenes are entertaining and I like the plot. The first RoboCop is a classic, but RoboCop 2 really isn't that bad.

Surprised to see all the negative reviews. I mean, compared to todays standards of action flicks, obviously this would be considered bad, but for a 1990 movie, this was pretty cool. It's much more nihilistic than the first but the first managed to make it's nihlism compelling, whereas it was a bit silly in this one. Definitely not as good as the first, but this one continues what the first started in a fairly well way with the commentaries, gore, and characters and adds in some big action that is entertaining. It does also basically re-hash many things the first does, is more illogical and cheesier, but never the less, it was pretty fun.

Pretty good.

I'm amazed Frank Miller was optimistic enough to return for the third film's script after this clusterfuck.

What an absolute piece of crap, I can't believe I ever thought this was cool. Is this supposed to be satire, to me it just feels like a dated-80s sci-fi!

I don't get why people rank on this one. Sure it's not Verhoeven, and it's not exactly Frank Miller either, but forget what it's not. What it is, is bloody awesome, gleefully ridiculous, bad-guys posturing, robot-fighting, Kershner-directed carnage.
