Fucking Henry Fonda, man. 114 credits, including walk-on roles in The Swarm, Meteor and this. Mind continues to blow at that man's "rollercoaster" career. I'm also reaching an epiphany of admiration for 70s Hollywood disaster ensembles. A hallmark I can't help but glorify.

One of my favorites from the 70s disaster cycle along with THE TOWERING INFERNO and EARTHQUAKE. A total comfort food movie for me.

Rollercoaster is a disaster film that does nothing to distinguish itself from the standard run of the mill disaster film. The acting isn't particularly good (Henry Fonda is in this for about a whole 2 minutes). Widmark and Segal are ok, but they didn't really have much to do here. I found the score too intrusive, as if they had to have audible cues for when the villain was onscreen. Not worth watching more than once if that.

I am a little partial to this film as this was filmed in my town. The were going to tear down the park to build condos on the spot where the park was. It was built so well that they use a bulldozer and tnt and sill had trouble taking it down but blew out windows in a four block area in the process. Great little thriller about a nutjob without motive blowing up theme parks. Featuring some great rollercoaster footage and the mighty Sparks in concert.

Maniac is blowing up amusement park rollercoasters. He threatens to continue unless he is paid 1 million dollars. This '70s catastrophe/thriller movie doesn't really hit it home. It has its moments but in overall movie bit too long. And the band, Sparks, that performs in the movie sucks. Thankfully this is kind of a thing of the past that band were appearing in the movies and performing their shitty songs.

Really fun to watch this movie again. I loved it when I was kid. My family took me to see it in Sensurround at the UA Cinema in White Plains, N.Y. Can't believe the movie still holds up. How they got Henry Fonda to do this, I'll never know. Film debuts of Helen Hunt, Steve Guttenberg, and Craig Wasson...

A movie I have a long personal history with: I was obsessed with tracking down a copy in my VHS-era childhood. My full review here:
