One of the best horror movies I ever saw.

One of my favorite if not favorite Stephen King movies. Well worth watching if you're into suspense and creepiness.

While it has some nice things going for it, King's writing, the production seems to go a little off kilter the further it goes, acting included. It's like they don't know quite what to do with his writing and so they throw as much horror "stuff" at it as possible to make it seem close to what King wrote. It deserved better treatment, because it looks and sounds like it should be a great ghost story. I will say, at least it kept my attention almost all of the time (being a King devotee, that's probably the only reason, but oh well).

Not even going to lie, this is my go-to lazy weekend miniseries. It's not actually well-written, but I always end up getting drawn into the exposition.

The idea behind Rose Red is fine although not original - the haunted house which continues to build itself while eating its inhabitants captures our imagination easily enough. The biggest problem, as is so often the case with King dramatizations (and in this case written-for-the-screen) is the lack of proper production. Despite some solid actors, the performances end up stilted and wooden, while the tension fails and ends up dragging an interesting idea down.
