Saw IV
2007 Directed by Darren Lynn Bousman
Synopsis
You think it is over...but the games have just begun.
Picking up where its grisly predecessor left off, this Saw finds Jeff Reinhart searching for his missing daughter, but a videotape from the dead serial killer Jigsaw is Jeff's only lead in his frantic hunt. The film switches back and forth in time throughout previous Saw films and ties up some lingering -- and bloody -- loose ends.

Another day another SAW.
This one is as twisty and turny as one of Jigsaws devious contraptions...a nice and complicated plot to keep you paying attention.
Sadly they obviously didn't trust us to do that, because the overuse of flashbacks took some of the enjoyment away.
But the traps were mostly impressive and it is excellently gory too (though some of it is CGI annoyingly) with the autopsy at the start a highlight!I now head off into the uncharted territory of the final 3 films!

Part of my Saw Marathon list.
Big improvement on Saw III, this one felt fresh and original, whole not straying too far from the original Saw. I love the autopsy scene, it always gets me. The traps are creative, and I really like the directing, it just all felt..good. However, it felt like it was here just to fill in plot points and dosen't act as its own entry in the franchise, it just feels like a little film on the side. Overall, very good though. Now onto Saw V...fuck.

Jigsaw: Origins.
Nothing is sacred in this installment. Every topic from paedophilia to miscarriage is covered in the typical Saw way. Is it a cutting edge social commentary? No, its for people who aren't quite confident enough to try a snuff film.
the one constant of the Saw films remains; shoddy straight to video style acting. The guy who plays Hoffman must've attended the same acting school as Keanu Reeves, Taylor Lautner and Sam Worthington. More wooden than a 2x4.
That said, its not atrocious. That comes later from what I recall...

As far as Saw movies go, this one's pretty good. Opening with a thoroughly stomach churning autopsy, made even more unsettling by how dispassionate it is.
Nothing mind-blowing, but you didn't watch Saw to have your mind blown did you? No. You watched for the traps and some plot twists.
There are traps a plenty, most pretty gruesome. And the kind of twists you've come to expect from Saw.
If you like the other 3, you'll enjoy this one.

This review reportedly contains spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Yep, this was the first time I saw the fourth Saw film.
In fact, after the third I stopped watching for a few reasons. For one thing, I enjoyed all the Saw films and I was so satisfied with third film as a possible end to the franchise (even if Saw III did leave some unanswered questions) I never felt the need to pursue more Saw films. Second, when I did decide to watch the rest of the Saw films, I never had the time to do so until now. Looking at the 4th, I really enjoyed it.One of the things I loved about this film, as with all the Saw films, is the sheer unpredictability. Going into this…

]This was an upgrade from the other saw sequels but still far away from the first one which had the best twist ending. The rest of the films of the franchise have all been very similar focusing on the torture and trying to give one twist after another which dont work quite well with the movie. The only good twist was in the original saw film. The fourth also gets lost during the film with so many twists and flashbacks. It didnt quite work for me but I have to admit I was a bit entertained with some parts but overall the movie was dull and repetitive. There were some interesting torture scenes but nothing that would blow your mind.…

A tedious hour or so of needlessly gory traps and unnecessary flashback sequences leads to a drawn out, incredibly complicated rug pull ending that thinks it's clever.
Worst of the franchise thus far. But I've not seen 5 yet...

En caída libre. La peor de las 4 primeras peliculas. Ya no me atrae ni los juegos macabros y el intento (una y otra vez) de enlazar absolutamente todo comienza a cansinear. Aún así, para ser una cuarta parte, se deja ver.

As I hoped; they learned from their mistakes from chapter three and made a Saw-film living up to the original great standards of the first to films in the franchise. Here we are served with an origin angle, and it's beautifully twined together with the previous stories. The plot twists are back, the story in general is well written, and and the suspense as it should be.

Weaker than the previous films but the twist really gets you in this one.

Die Fallen und ihre Auswirkungen werden immer extremer. Das Drehbuch und die Story wird aber auch immer abstruser.
