Have you read the description for this Bert?
Whoever wrote it has no fucking clue what 'uproarious humour' or 'biting satire' means. What that person meant to write was something more along the lines of "It's almost like being held down and beat to death with used condoms!"

The slasher genre underwent something of a reinvention in the late nineties and as such it was only a matter of time before someone came along to make fun of its newfound success. Alas, whilst many options were available, the go-to horror spoof that we’ve been lumbered with is Scary Movie. Taking its inspiration from the two biggest slasher films of the decade, Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scary Movie is a crude, immature and mostly uninspiring comedy that contains a few belly laughs but very little else of any note.
The main problem with Scary Movie is that it’s trying to take the piss out of a self-aware horror film. Part of Scream’s charm…

I had heard this was one of the original, therefore good, ___ Movie's.
Well....it's not.
It's not funny. It's annoying. Everything about this movie is annoying. The characters are annoying, the jokes are annoying, and the actors are annoying.
In fact, that's what's really wrong with modern movie spoofs. The actors ham it up. What made movies like Airplane and shows like A Touch of Cloth so great is that the actors played the entire thing like they were in a serious drama. These people play it like it's a comedy, and that's where everything falls apart.
So yeah, just shit in every possible area it could have been shit in.
Also, fuck you, movie for that shot at Shaq and Kazaam at the beginning. He's green egg and hammin' it. -
Despite being the spawned culprit of some horrible subsequent sequels (Friedberg & Seltzer are also co-writers here), I find the first Scary Movie to be genuinely side-splitting stuff. Sure, there are some real clunky homages to The Blair Witch Project and The Matrix, but everything else is consistently amusing. The humour crosses every boundary possible: age, race or gender - with no limits whatsoever. The laughs vary from hitting you right in the face, to being surprisingly subtle. After re-watching this with some mates last night (and having the captions on) I caught a few whispered, hidden gags in the background as well. It's also worth it to stay right after the end credits where a hilarious scene with Doofie plays out. Yes, it's not scary. Yes, it's really stupid. Yes, it appeals to the lowest common denominator. But it's oh so entertaining.

Immature, silly, spoofs everything.
Love this film, watched so much I can quote most scenes. My favorite spoof film by far.
Its loads of fun and just a little bit silly. Great cast who haven't really done much since but Faris and the Waynas Brothers are amazing.
Recommend it if you like a silly couple of hours and don't want to think about anything else.

This is still actually not that bad. Shame they deteriorated in quality rapidly after. Well made and some decent touches in here.

Had to watch all the Scary Movies for an article. Not a fan of the franchise, but the first has its moments. As will become a common theme with these films, the first is at its weakest when it lampoons fleeting pop culture footnotes instead of horror films.

It was aight.

Trashy.

Rewatching this as an adult pretty much destroyed my favorable childhood memories. It's crappy at it's best, but there are still a few laugh-out-loud moments.
