Film #19 of 'It's June Jim, but not as we know it.'
Whenever you make a film about a group of knights transporting a witch you should either go all out grim horror or all out serious and atmospheric. There is no middle ground, yet Dominic Sena managed to find it anyway, which is no mean feat as he even had Cage and Perlman at his disposal to add some energy and appeal.
Alas, what it has turned into is a film that is neither here nor there. It exists in that precarious limbo of films with a cool idea and an uninspired execution. The script, taken at face value, actually isn't that bad. It gets from a to b…

Sometimes Nicolas Cage must wonder why he signs on for movies like this. Maybe he needed another pay-day or thought that working with Dominic Sena again after "Gone In 60 Seconds" was something he wanted to do. Who knows, but I bet he regrets it now.
Well where do we start? The premise of focusing on European history's dodgy Crusader past and their passion for burning "heretics" was interesting. But if you want to see it fucked up within 10 minutes then this is the film for you. Witches, religious zealots and guilt-ridden knights that have lost their faith, this has them all. For the record,Cage is American. For the record,Stephen Graham isn't. In a European set period piece why the fuck did… -
I bought this for a dollar and I feel ripped off.

Throws virtually every cliche in the book at the screen, and still manages to be devoid of any tension, or thrills.
Things aren't helped by a drab colour scheme, an uninspired score, and cardboard cut-out characters. It also utterly wastes the talents of the cast (yes, even the mighty Cage) who really deserve a better film.
Throw in a last gasp twist that is obvious if you're paying attention, and you have film that's just...there.

Oh dear god.
To be fair, I stopped paying attention about 20 minutes in, so there is a chance that it all of a sudden became truly brilliant, and I simply missed it (I highly doubt it, but whatever).
Now I'm trying to remember when exactly I stopped taking Nicolas Cage seriously.

Normally I enjoy Nicholas Cage's movies but this one was dumb. I am wondering who Christopher Lee was in this movie though. This movie was boring. Admittedly I didn't see the end twist coming but that's all I can really say. Not worth a watch.

As I sat through the first ten minutes, I thought to myself, 'wow, this actually looks pretty good'.
Then they started talking. And once the The Cage and Hellboy was given their 'quest', the whole thing nose dived.
Tonally, it looked good. The film had a dark, nasty streak running through it which I liked a lot. But the story and the dialogue were shocking. It kept veering between 'Lord of the RIngs' style dialogue then modern day 'Buddy cop' stick, and a plot so pedestrian, I was bored out of my mind long before the final 'reveal'.
Such a shame, because the acting wasn't that bad, especially from the secondary characters.
Just someone needs to sort that script out!

One of the only movies I simply stopped watching about fifteen minutes in. And I say that as someone who loves both medieval period movies AND Nicolas Cage.
Ron Perlman really needs to fire his agent.

Nic Cage Watch #22: This would have been better off being a buddy comedy with Nic Cage and Ron Perlman. Their scenes where they are joking are so tonally off what this movie actually is as a whole to be utterly fascinating. Otherwise, this is a rather tepid religious-tinged thriller that isn't even about witches in the end.

Dull, Slow, and uninteresting. You know you're watching a really bad Nick Cage movie when even he looks bored. Far too serious for it's own good!

After 12 years of warfare in The Crusades, 2 dispirited Knights (Cage and Perlman) head home across Europe, but first stop in a village where witches were executed. They are persuaded to transport a suspected witch to a distant monastery where a sacred document is stored that can deal with her.
A Very average Nic Cage Movie where the cast really should have elevated it. But even Ron Perlman, Stephen Graham and Christopher Lee fail. They get very little to do, with only Perlman getting a couple of decent moments, one in particular is head butting a demon, which is awesome and terrible at the same time.
This could have been so much better, instead it's meandering and quite boring in long stretches. -
The latest Nicolas Cage action film is, as expected bad, but also not as bad as expected.
