Very nice. The things I liked about this, I really liked a lot, although I felt like it did get too heavy-handed for me in more places than I'd have liked.

This is a great movie. If you like martial arts and foreign movies, this is a must watch.

More than just a action Kung Fu movie! Very emotional with great actors!

Pretty cool action movie with a moral philosophy that I imagine will go down easy for most viewers - you don't have to close your eyes or make allowances or whatever (like you do when watching Hero, for example). I also loved Andy Lau in the lead role, playing a genuinely complex man, but unfortunately most of that complexity goes out the window once he actually decides to become a monk. I guess that's to be expected, though.
I was expecting just a cameo from Jackie Chan but he's actually got three or four scenes, and he even gets to fight in one of them!

Shaolin is part martial arts film, part war drama, and part about Buddhism.
We are in the China of the 1920's. While a republic is proclaimed, civil war rages accross the country, fueled mainly by regional warlords. General Hou Jie is one such warlord, utterly ruthless and heartless (however loving towards his daughter and wife), gaining power everyday with the destruction of his enemies. Hou pursues one of his enemies to the Shaolin temple, mocks the monks trying to stop… -
Brilliant film! I love a good kung fu movie, this has great drama and clever fighting. The actors all give a solid performance, one to re-watch

For those who know what I'm talking about, the movie really feels like 9 Dragons, the MMO.

An above average martial arts flick that is heavy on Buddhist propaganda. Evil guy plans assassination of closest rival, his second in command takes opportunity to kill both rivals. Evil mans daughter dies, he become a buddhist and frees his townspeople from his former pupil who is now more evil than he is. Andy Lau gives a good performance and you get some Jackie Chan thrown in for the hell of it. Decent enough fighting to be worth a watch.

Andy Lau and Jackie Chan are excellent, as always, and I am glad to say that they are being so in a good movie; too often these men and their talents are saving grace of mediocre movies. Lau plays a warlord who pursues a vanquished foe into the Shaolin temple and kills him; naturally, within a short span of time, Lau will find himself seeking refuge at the Temple, even becoming a monk and successfully casting off the greed and…

Benny Chan's Shaolin is a solid film for those seeking a good martial arts drama. The film is not as action-packed as some may hope but there's enough fighting to appease the majority while Andy Lau and Nicholas Tse deftly portray the battle of forgiveness in the face of ruthless betrayal. While the pacing falters at times and some of the characters could have used some more depth, the film is still quite enjoyable and well worth seeing.

Shaolin brings us back to the glorious days of shaolin-related films era of the 80s and 90s which at the moment popularized by Jet Li. This is a great movie starring Andy Lau, Nicholas Tse, Jackie Chan and Bingbing Fan. It tells about the fall of Chinese Empire due to greed and feuding warlords and Shaolin temple had to endure most of the loss. The film, which shows a great deal of deception and hatred, teaches us about compassion in accordance with Buddha's teachings that we must love others.
