It ain't Ogre... Til it's Ogre
A bored and domesticated Shrek pacts with deal-maker Rumpelstiltskin to get back to feeling like a real ogre again, but when he's duped and sent to a twisted version of Far Far Away—where Rumpelstiltskin is king, ogres are hunted, and he and Fiona have never met—he sets out to restore his world and reclaim his true love.

This was better than I expected; whilst not as good as the original Shrek it was still funny and told a good story, where Shrek bores of his happy family life and ends up in an alternative reality with Fiona now a warrior leader (whose guilty secret is that she turns into a human in the day time) fighting against the rule of the evil Rumpelstiltskin. Will true love triumph?

As far as the Shrek franchise goes, this entry isn't particularly strong. It's certainly the worst out of the 4, yet as a film in its own right it's entertaining enough, and the voice talents are incredible as always.
If you can ignore the ropey and over-complicated plot, this is a reasonable end to the Shrek world.

The final chapter of the Shrek saga is a standard, animated adventure that offers little new to the green ogre's mythos. The film is colorful and well-voiced, but its appeal may mostly be to Shrek-lovers only. The film is not without its energetic and fun moments, but it is not a remarkable or particularly memorable experience.

This movie was humorous as any Shrek movie would be although as a finale i do feel they could of made it more humorous. It didn't really satisfy would everyone was waiting for. I thought it wasn't as good as the movies of the Shrek franchise although overall it was a great film.

Oh man how the once might Shrek franchise has fallen. With its fourth movie in less then a decade it seems as though not only have they run out of steam but this time people realize it.
In Shrek Forever After Shrek is a happy family man married to Princess Fiona with three kids, he is about as far away from the character that we all fell in love with in the first movie as can be and is now going to a mid-life crisis. Maybe he too realizes just how bad things have gotten. Shrek makes a deal with this movies main big bad Rumpelstiltskin to return to knowing what it was like to being a true ogre again…

"It's a shame to see a franchise which built its foundations on witty subversion of stereotypes and conventions in its first film largely fall back on trite and unimaginative ideas as it draws to a close. Sadly, Dreamworks have made sure there's absolutely nothing left to wring out of their flagship ogre before allowing him to retire to his swamp for the final time." Full review here

While Shrek Forever After is not as bad as Shrek the Third it still feels like a shell of its former self. While it did get some things right, primarily getting rid of Shrek's kids for most of the film, it doesn't put much back in, lacking the humor that the first 2 films possessed. The ogre deserved a better ending than this.

I think why this one is a marked improvement over the third is that it goes back to basics with the focus on the core characters. It feels like the filmmakers tried to inject a little of what made the first film such a classic. However it's still the fourth film in a franchise and lacks the originality and spark of the original.

Stop the franchise now please you've jumped the shark some while ago.
