Shrek
2001 Directed by Andrew Adamson, Vicky Jenson
Synopsis
The greatest fairy tale never told.
It ain't easy bein' green -- especially if you're a likable (albeit smelly) ogre named Shrek. On a mission to retrieve a gorgeous princess from the clutches of a fire-breathing dragon, Shrek teams up with an unlikely compatriot -- a wisecracking donkey.

I'm notoriously hard on kids films. I'm a grown ass man and I like grown ass man things. Now that doesn't mean there's no kids film I enjoy. There's several and Shrek is one of them. A big reason why this film works for me is, while it's great for kids it has adult things neatly tucked inside. They're not things young children will pick up on and they make Shrek very watchable for adults.
The voice acting is very good, and with actors like Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy they were all very popular at the time. The characters are all very likable and the use of real fairy tale characters in parts make for some solid…

Back in the golden age of VHS I personally recorded the soundtrack to Shrek from the TV speakers to my cassette deck. I then made copies of the original cassette and sold them to people at school for the next few days. I didn't choose the thug life, the thug life chose me.

Shrek really holds up because, unlike its sequels, the humor is based on wit and postmodern subversions of fairy tale tropes rather than endless pop culture references. It's also very heartfelt and has an unexpectedly memorable soundtrack.

When he's done having at that donkey with an unspeakably smelly green wang, he's coming for you, princess.
Shrek is released from prison after serving time for a crime he didn't commit, and now he's on a mission to get his big green rocks off in whatever way crosses his path.

Still struggling with the logistics of Donkey and Dragon's physical relationship in these films.

The start of an animated franchise that had one great sequel and then stagnated into mediocrity. Shrek was a marvellous film and still remains one of the great non-Pixar animations. John Lithgow's Lord Farquaad is an excellent character and the film is full almost entirely of quotable dialogue.
But it also has a heart and that is really important.

Who hasn't seen Shrek? This irreverent Beauty and the Beast mock-up is one of the funniest animated movies out there. Mike Myers stars as a loveable green ogre who wants nothing more than to be left alone. To accomplish this, he must rescue the feisty Princess Fiona (Cameron Diaz) who has a dark secret of her own. Comedian Eddie Murphy provides comic relief, and a soundtrack of top-40 pop rock songs accompanies this entertaining plot as opposed to a majestic score. Shrek assisted in boosting Dream Works SKG's status as an entertainment mogul, forcing it to become one of Walt Disney Picture's most adamant rivals.

Now this is the storybook all about how
My life got shreked, turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute just sit right there
I'll tell you how I became king of Far, Far AwayIn wet Sewerdelphia born and raised
In the marshes where I spent most of my days
Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool
And all shooting some mossballs outside of the gruel
When a couple of 'Quaads, they were up to nogreood
Started making trouble in my neighbourhood
I got in one little fight and my donkey got scared
And said "You're moving with the princess in Far, Far Away"I whistled for a dragon, when it came near the
dragon said "filth" and… -

Nothing more than an animated Farrelly Bros. road movie (complete with road, and incessant song after song). The jokes, for the most part, are either tirelessly and eye-rollingly flat (the donkey is the best part because he has a greater amount of comedic successes because he talks a mile a minute - - - but isn't that a bad thing?), or obsessive about knocking Disney (apparently Katzenberg's torch burning as a vengeance - - - but not a terribly efficient one, I'm afraid). Visually superior to the last two Dreamworks animated extravaganzas (I'm talking now about the non-clay productions), Antz and The Prince of Egypt, but about one third as intelligent and far less entertaining than those two films. The…

To me Shrek is one of those movies that just came out of no where. After seeing commercials for it I pretty much just dismissed it. I didn't think that it looked all that great. After seeing it though my mind was completely changed. It was pretty darn good after all and I feel that it was pretty much a modern fairy tale every bit as good as the fairy tales that it pays loving tribute too.
Shrek is about an Ogre named Shrek, naturally, who is a loner who enjoys his solitude in his swamp but after his swamp is taken over by a bunch of other fairy tale creatures after Lord Farquaad sends them all there to be…

This is Almost there, Just that bit off a Brilliant Animated Comedy (See Shrek 2) But this certainly is Good.
I just did not like it as much.
Shrek 2 had Far Far Away,Shrek One Is In Generic Kingdom#13
Shrek 2 Has A good Explained Bad Guy/Gal. Shrek One had a Mediocre Bad guy,
They sorted all the problems by the second movie though thank god.
