Many people will probably be annoyed by the fact that Slovenian Girl builds a lot of scenarios that doesn't amount to anything. Ironically that is precisely why I find it realistic and like it. Mainstream cinema as an artform (if it can be labeled that) is often tormented by its inherent need to exaggerate events and therefore, in most cases, becomes utterly uninteresting. The tone set in this Slovenian drama is that of real problems and real possible solutions.

First Slovenian film, it wasn't great but not so bad!

This Slovenian film directed by Damjan Kozole premièred at the Toronto International Film Festival 2009 and it was released theatrically in more than 30 countries (in US under the title A Call Girl). It is worth watching this fascinating study of the individual and of the society in which so much has changed in a short time. The story of Aleksandra, a twenty-three-year-old Slovenian who leads a double life (she is a respectable student and a call girl) was not…

A protagonist who is able to create a strong sense of pathos in her audience as she moves from unfeeling to despair is unable to save a film that deliberately attempts to push buttons in the viewer. Not quite an Oprah Book Club of a movie but the yummy mummies of the world will be terribly sad whilst sipping their $12 lattes and discussing the plight of a poor Eastern European girl who sees her only way out of small…

The film starts in a very promising way but in the end it's feels empty. In a similar fashion as "The Girlfriend Experience" by Soderbergh, this is a look in the life of a young university girl that works as a prostitute rather than a narrative film, and while that's ok for me I felt a little disappointed because the film has enough good subplots for a great climax that never happens. The direction is good and the actress do a good job too.

Part 10 of my Tell Me What To Watch December - nominated by Lise.

I was slightly sad that Slovenian Girl didn't really seem to make it for me because it was clearly a film that could so easily have been great.

It's not an entirely new story at its outset, but when the call girl of the title flees from the hotel room of a dead client who just happens to be a high-flying European politician, she finds her…

Slovenian drama following a young woman in debt studying, and her involvment in prostitution, a honest portrayal at least in her performance, a actress that looks normal and not the hollywood beauty. while not a fantastic film, you dio follow her small journey and situations that she comes across, nothing ouitlandish or indeed hollywood, just a decent charactor study

Fairly interesting depiction of a girl lost in an adult world.
