When I ask my BF to watch films I love, it's a typical thing for me to say 'hang in there, it's a creeper, wait for it'. He rarely agrees with me and in the end I know it doesn't matter. I love working for it sometimes and this quiet affair blooms beautifully in that Sofia Coppola kind of way that is so lonely and cold.

I fell asleep more times watching this movie than Stephen Dorff did in the movie. I feel accomplished.

This review reportedly contains spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Watching a Sophia Coppola film is like putting on my favourite jumper, its familiar and I know exactly what its going to be like. Some might say boring, but I would call it relaxing.
I thoroughly enjoyed this! I have only ever seen Stephen Dorff in like three things, but ever since I first saw him in Blade (and fell in love) I have had this strong motherly desire to SHOOT DOWN ANYONE WHO SAYS ANYTHING BAD ABOUT HIM. I think he really proved himself in this, and the rest of the cast are great too. I love the scenes with Elle, Stephen and Chris Pontius together and I think it gives a really good reflection on life as a…

If all you'd have to say of this film is "ugh this film was so boring, nothing happened! *gumchew*" ... I'm afraid we cannot be friends.
Sofia is one of the few directors in Hollywood to make films where a whole lot happens without special effects, explosions, and in most cases - dialogue.
Seriously stunning.

People who don't like this film but do like Lost in Translation: why?

It was pleasant, but I found it too similar to her previous films, while adding nothing new.

I have been a passionate advocate of Sofia Coppola. Not just for her masterpieces 'The Virgin Suicides' and 'Lost in Translation', but also for her more maligned works (I'm talking about you 'Marie Antoinette'), and so it is with a figurative tear in my eye that I say that this didn't live up to her usual standard.
With all the detachment of Lost in Translation, and none of the charm, it seemed to err on the side of the off Hollywood art film, but without the risks. There is still something unique, fresh, and profoundly appealing about Sofia's own, unique filmic voice, and her detachment from the conventional domination of dialogue, but unlike her previous works this becomes alienating to…

A little bit like "Lost in Translation". A little bit a lot. But it's a kind different. Sure it is, it has to. And the end, well. Reviews? I can.
Ein bisschen wie "Lost in Translation". Ein bisschen arg. Doch irgendwie anders, natürlich. Aber meiner Meinung nach nicht so dicht erzählt. Und das Ende, naja. Reviews, kann ich.

Watching this is like meditating. You let it wash over you like warm water. I understand the complaints that it's slow, self-indulgent, and about nothing. But I like a good movie about nothing every once in a while.

There are a lot of things to like about this film, but the ending is really, really, not one. Coppola took a lot of the same terrific ingredients from Lost in Translation and mixed them with a new interesting (though similar story of loneliness) but forgot some of the key flavors of a strong script.

Ritmo lento e ainda assim agradável, qualidade raríssima no cinema hollywoodiano. A Sofia definitivamente criou uma identidade própria.
