Letterboxd needs to add another check after "I've seen this film before" for "I've seen this film before A GABILLION TIMES."
I definitely didn't get the Kafka joke as a kid. Or the "Prince Valium" name. Or that John Hurt was reprising his role from ALIEN (which I hadn't seen at that point). Or the PLANET OF THE APES gag at the end (hadn't seen that yet, either). It's kind of amazing, frankly, how many of the reference jokes I DIDN'T get at that age -- and how much I loved this movie anyway. Now, I get the references AND the dumb dick jokes, so it's basically a masterpiece.

This will never not be funny, even when it goes from suck to blow.

"At last we meet for the first time for the last time"
" I am your father's brother's nephews cousins former roommate"
Not Brook's best but that's just a credit to the man's work and while this may have been watered down by some due to the sheer amount of Star Wars parody's over the years it's still hilarious and contains some of the actor's best work. Spot on Jokes at merchandising and a 4th wall joke that may top my favorite one from Blazing saddles are highlights plus everyone's names are absolutely brilliant. Small parody's at Alien and Planet of the apes were a nice surprise as well.
Special mention must go to Rick Moranis though as he is…

This is quite possibly my favorite movie of all time. Mel Brooks is a genius. 80s comedy and satire at its absolute best.

Funny on all fronts, had me in hysterics on multiple occasions. Everyone is great in this and the jokes are hilarious. Cannot believe I hadn't seen this sooner.

The words... I can't find.

Not my kind of thing, but at it least made me laugh a few times.

What a classic.
I hadn't seen this in a longtime so it was great to be reminded how funny this film is and how great Rick Moranis is as Dark Helmet.
Good times.

While it does have its flaws, Spaceballs is one of the funniest movies of all time (IMO). Mel Brooks writes, directs and stars in this film and he does a wonderful job with each. The acting is all good with Moranis stealing the show as Dark Helmet with his witty and goofy humor. I have seen this movie so many times but it still does get me laughing out loud!

Really good and funny shit!

This is so amazingly funny even after years of multiple viewings, without a doubt a near perfect parody the likes of which rarely been equaled and I would bet never will be again. There is so much awesome in this film and everyone in the cast pulls their own weight to make this truly special experience.
Clearly, the film is a parody of Star Wars and is made with both love and respect and is all the better for it. To make it Brooks even got the approval of Lucas himself with the condition that no profit be made from merchandising, which was a huge money maker for Star Wars and is even a point that is hysterically brought up in the film itself.
If you haven't seen this one, whether you have seen, loved, hated, or never seen Star wars I am supremely positive you will thoroughly enjoy this class comedy!
Enjoy!

Amusing bits, but I was expecting hilarious. The spaceballs meta parts were annoying forthe most part.
