I loved this movie when it came out in '96, mostly because I was still in 5th grade. It turns out I was wrong, this is not a great movie.
There are just enough good bits in here to make this a disappointment. If everything fell flat I wouldn't feel nearly as bad when clearly they had potential. I'm a big enough fan of Airplane! and the Naked Gun movies that I found interesting moments through to the end, but really it has too many jokes that don't land, and shoehorned in movie "parodies". The parodies reminded me of a Friedberg and Seltzer movie, and it turns out this was the first movie they wrote for. So if you're in…

This is fucking terrible.
I should have realised there's a reason I hadn't heard of this before. It's testament to the quality of Airplane and Naked Gun that Leslie Nielsen made so much dross like this yet still was revered as awesome.

Not quite the Naked Gun level it thinks it is, but not as a bad as some of Lesley's later comedies that he gets drawn into. Some funny, clever laughs but it's one of the films where clever observation isn't really laugh at loud funny so although its enjoyable, it's certainly not memorable.
Drinking Game: Everytime you think, "Isn't he just playing Frank?"
Bottom Line: Naked Gun 44th and a 4th. Ever decreasing returns. -
Ierastais Nīlsena lauciņš, cenšās viņš cik jau nu var, bet ne vienmēr ar to vien pietiek. Daudz pilnīgi debili joki, bet tikpat daudz arī smieklīgi (pie mūķenēm raudāju, itkā pirmo reizi redzētu, pavisam nopietni!!!)

A bad movie misusing a good actor. Laughs are scarce through the entire plot and many jokes are just the leftovers from Airplane or The Naked Gun. Skip it.

Leslie Nielsen is like a slightly embarassing uncle, who you still laugh at more through politeness than comedy. But we love him anyway. How old IS he now?

Oh I loved this film as a kid in the 90's, and I still have a massive soft spot for it now. From a technical standpoint it's obvious from every pore, but joke for joke a lot of the gags hit - and there's a line, sight gag or piece of slapstick around every corner, plus a brace of winks to the Bond franchise especially. Plus it has a fun theme song from 'Weird' Al Yankovic and Charles Durning as an eccentric spy boss who disguises himself in furniture, what's not to love about that?!
Easily the best non-Naked Gun spoof comedy Leslie Nielsen did.

The theme song is the highlight, but after that it goes downhill. Very few jokes land particularly well and as neither the story or acting is anything to write home about it, it's not a great film. There are some cameos that make it worthwhile and as a brain-switch-off film it's ok.
