This film is still a blast.
Glorified B movies work when they know what they are and this film knows just that. It attacks its plot with seriousness and conviction without losing sight of its main goal which is to entertain us. It kept reminding me of all the dime a dozen sci-fi pockets I've read, perfectly capturing that feeling of high adventure. Nothing truly original, but executed with gusto.
For a film almost 20 years old it looks absolutely stunning. You can find many a flaw in Emmerich's body of work, but his films never look bad. He has assembled a strong cast with a great villain in a beautiful setting. This film is a perfect bit of distraction that is well worth revisiting.

I've always been a pretty big fan of this movie, so I decided to watch my newly purchased Blu ray after catching it in the middle on Starz. I never was a consistent viewer of the television show, but I always felt that the movie was underrated because the show was on for so long, in fact a co-worker i was talking to about the film said he didn't even know that the film existed. Granted he's only 24 years old, but I was pretty amazed that someone hadn't even known about the film.
Although the film felt dated at some points, I still found it to be very entertaining. It just has this charm about it, and maybe it's…

MYSTERY MARCH CHALLENGE - Week 1
I actually enjoyed this film more than I expected. I never really liked the television show when I was younger so it put me off Stargate for a while. Then they made loads of television shows about it and I lost track and never bothered to start watching them. Now I'm thinking differently, I think one day I may watch SG-1 or even Atlantis. Thank you Mystery March Challenge for giving me a great film.

One of my all time favorite movies. I love the concept, story and grandness of the cinematography.
Its also the movie I discovered the music of David Arnold and became a fan. To this day I think it is his best score and should have been nominated for an Oscar that year.

Kurt Russell and James Spader are electric! My only complaint about this one is that I have to take a break from watching it on repeat so that my mind doesn't implode from all of the excellent things present in this movie!
Two Thumbs Up!

This was an okay film, I didn't realise it was from the 90s until my mum started saying it's old... I really thought it was from 2000s because it had nice effects and it was pretty good.
It's pretty weird that I liked it, because I usally hate sci-fiction films, but this one was pretty cool; I just love the sand and egyptian kind of setting.

Aside from a few moments of silliness, this holds up pretty well. There are too many plot conveniences near the end, and I still wish the story allowed for transporting to some other planet (I guess that's what the TV show was for, right?), but I found myself enjoying most of it upon a belated second viewing.

Hadn't seen it in a while. I still enjoy it, and it made me miss the TV shows.

I don't know why, but I have very specific memories of going to see this in theaters at a really crappy mall. I could have seen it at the greatest mall in the world however and it wouldn't have made it much better. It's a good premise, I suppose, but the execution is bland, as is the imagery. No movie starring both Kurt Russell and James Spader should be this boring.

I know this movie has it's followers, but alas, I'm not one of them. Bored from start to finish.

Kurt Russell's the man. However, this movie is about James Spader's less fun character.

Mystery March Challenge - Week 5
I used to watch SG-1 when I was a child, maybe 7 years old. I wish I'd seen this when I was that age because I'd have probably grown up loving it. Now I'm a bit too cynical for films like this. It still looks great for a near 20 year old sci-fi film though which is quite the achievement.
