I enjoyed this one much more than my rating suggests. The dancing rules the show, especially the spectacular finale. Tatum and Dewan have great chemistry. (So great, in fact, that they apparently started dating and then got married after this film. And they're still together 7 years later -- good for them!) Channing Tatum, in fact, has superb chemistry with all his co-actors, even if he is playing John Cena. Watch for a couple of super-cute scenes with him and young Alyson Stoner as his foster sister.
The movie looks lovely, too, particularly the rooftop scene at the dockyards.
So what's wrong? Well, we get some awful dialogue throughout the film. Moreover, you won't be remotely surprised by anything that…

I could easily write off Step Up for being a totally predictable and cliched movie experience. I could also write it off because while it is billed as a dance movie, there is hardly any dancing in it. But, I am not going to do that, and I will tell you why.
The message in this film, the idea of stepping up and achieving your dreams, is inspiring to me, and it should be to you as well. Next time your confronted with a choice that will make your life better, but there is a chance you might fail, I want you to think about the journey that Channing Tatum's character goes through. Here is an orphan who is basically…

I was actually expecting MUCH worse, which I realize isn't a ringing endorsement but still. Pretty decent for a teen flick. The story is predictable and there are a ton of unfunny jokes but the romance works, the dance sequences are pretty cool and regardless of the material surrounding him, Channing Tatum is still a movie star. The last act is overwrought and silly (do we really need the couple falling out, friends falling out AND random teen gang violence?) but I still left with a smile on my face.

90% while I was watching the movie, I was just observing the chemistry between Channing and his now wife, Jenna Dewan, who acted as Nora Clark, the female lead role.
I can see why Channing married her. Of all the pairings I have seen him with, she has the most chemistry with him. The scenes where they were dating and being sweet to each other didn’t even look scripted. It was very natural and spontaneous and GAH IM SO HAPPY FOR THEM ;u;
Dearest and sweetest Channing Tatum grew up in Alabama and I love how he didn’t even try to hide his Southern accent in this movie. It matched perfectly with his role.
Back to the movie, Step Up…

In the pantheon of Channing Tatum vehicles, this is no GI Joe and it sure as hell is no Haywire. Also: Needs more dancing!

365 Day Unseen Movie Marathon Redux - Day 46
Ugh. I only watched Step Up because the two girls in my office somehow convinced me that it was a good film. I should have realised they only feel that way because they both have a thing for Channing Tatum.
This was nothing more than a boring and unsexy chick flick about a guy from the wrong side of the tracks meeting a good girl. Dirty Dancing is a million times better.

I was laughing all the way through. I don't think that was the objective, but I'm giving them credit anyway.

I can't in good conscience give this any higher a grade because, you know, it's Step Up, but yes, I enjoyed it, even amidst its stereotypicality. And, you know, watching it now I already have built-in affection for Channing Tatum.

It was alright, I guess. Too bad for the lack of plot though.
