It's a shame that this film was released next to The Sixth Sense and is often compared to it. I always felt that was the reason why it got so little attention back then, which, in my opinion, is totally unjustified.
This film is of the 'gets under your skin' variety. The premise is excellent, if a bit predictably worked out. But the strengths of this film do not lie in its originality, they lie within its visual style and Mr. Bacon.
The film oozes a kind of grim and bleak feel that really got to me. Everything, from the colours to the production design, felt as if something wasn't right, was somehow otherworldly. Sure, this telegraphs things to come…

This has always been a horror fave of mine. I know, I know there are so many girl ghost stories out there but this is one that I really enjoyed. Very scary and creepy.

Defiantly not an average, low budget horror movie with a predictable storyline. Stir of Echoes has a great element and a compelling, puzzling and well put together plot. Even though Kevin Bacon's nose annoys me it was a great movie over all.

One of my all time favorite ghost movies, Seen this a bunch of times and it always entertains. It's amazing the amount of films that has come from the works of Richard Matheson. The unfortunate thing is that this didnt do well when theatrically released, as it was looked at as a Sixth Sense ripoff. Never mind that it was in production first and was based on an older novel. The Chicago setting and the characters all ring true and the little boy is grin inducing every moment he is on screen, even when he is being creepy. Anyone should search this out especially if you liked The Sixth Sense.

Solid little mystery/thriller. This is definitely a movie that feels like it fell through the cracks, but it's absolutely worth seeing.

So much better than The Sixth Sense, shame that, that one got all the glory.

David Koepp's hugely underrated adaptation of Richard Matheson's classic ghost story should have been the massive box-office hit that The Sixth Sense became. Kevin Bacon is superb in the central role, and this fabulous fright flick more than holds up on this long overdue repeat viewing.

This got lost in that crop of supernatural flicks that followed The Sixth Sense but it was definitely one of the best of the bunch.

Watched this again and it still as scary as before, the jump scares are really effective and this is a good entry in the tension filled dramas. I have to say though that I do feel Kevin Bacon is not a particularly likeable character and would prefer if he had been more likeable allowing us to connect with him and sympathise with him more. Overall though I relly like this film and would watch it again (never getting hypnotised though).

4/21/05 - Stir of Echoes was a good suspenseful thriller with a very creepy feel to it. The plot was pretty predictable though.
