You sit down to watch Strange Days 18 years after it was made and it still has the power to make you grind your teeth with angst.
The millennium may have been and gone, but director Kathryn Bigelow along with then husband and self proclaimed King of the World James Cameron have managed to create a cyberpunk world and tap into a vein of horror that could still actually come about. Not many sci-fi movies can claim that honor.
From the get go you're immersed in a world of filth; a heart pounding robbery of a Chinese restaurant and a FPS view as the thieves make their getaway, only to discover you're watching a "clip"- courtesy of a Superconducting Quantum…

I'm about to say something fairly inflammatory, but rather than get up in arms about it, just think carefully about it and you'll realize I'm right. Ready?
Kathryn Bigelow is better than anyone in the history of film when it comes to shooting action sequences.
It's not just that she so great at filming action, it's that she's great at shooting every conceivable sort of action setpiece. She can do car chases, fight scenes, shootouts... hell, she made an entire film built around bomb disposal and it was one of the most arresting action films ever made.
And if the POV robbery sequence that opens this film doesn't take your breath away, then... man, I don't know what to say.…

Very cool POV tracking shots and Angela Bassett is really badass. I'm surprised she never played an action hero. It would be interesting to see how this turned out if James Cameron directed it instead of Bigelow. This also should get a blu-ray release as the DVD isn't even anamorphic. While they're at it, FUCKING release True Lies on blu-ray also!!

Has some of the best POV tracking shots ever put on film.

What a ride.
Kathryn Bigelow's Strange Days of yet another great movie that somehow fell through the cracks and is now, slowly but steadily, gaining the recognition it deserves. Featuring yet another smart script by James Cameron (one of the greatest names in sci-fi of our time, in my opinion), Strange Days follows Lenny Nero (Ralph Fiennes), an ex-cop that now makes his living selling new experiences ot his customers via a breakthrough virtual reality device that uses POV footage captured by other people. When one day he "witnesses" the murder of one of his associates, he also happens to trip into a much larger conspiracy.
Besides Fiennes, the cast is packed with known faces: Angela Basset, Juliette Lewis, Tom…

I'm not sure how I managed to get to 2012 before having heard of this movie, as it's pretty badass despite one of the most disappointing last thirty minutes of a great movie I remember seeing.
A cyber-noir written by James Cameron and directed by Kathryn Bigelow Strange Days gets so much right for so long before ruining it all with what I will assume was an ending decided by studio panel rather than the intended outcome. As a near future (of the time) science fiction it does great, using a lot of imagination to depict a world in which grunge didn't die and is disintegrating in the face of New Millennial angst and yet where science fiction uses the…

Is it the end of the world as we know it, or just the beginning of a new one? While this cyberpunk genre piece is a little sprawling and overly ambitious, it succeeds in establishing a core of potent truth to grab a hold of. It also manages to capture a lot of late millenium anxieties and pull a wonderful trick of duality in reflecting both how far humanity has fallen down, as well as how far it's come and could still go.

I watched this for the first time and it was immediately a top 100 film for me. It's dark, dirty, sexy and sweaty and I loved it. Ralph Fiennes is a likeable porn 'clip' pusher and angela basset is almost over the top but her hard boiled dialogue gives the film a nice noir edge. The only let down for me was juliette lewis - who looks the part - but forgets to act the part. I thought it was deliberate; until I realised it wasn't. I could (and probably will) watch this many times.

Najpoznatijeg dilera u gradu i glavnog protagonista igra Ralph Fiennes, neugledna i manje DUŠBEG (dobro, to stvarno nije teško za postići) verzija Bradley Coopera.

There isn't much to say other than that I loved this movie. The only problem I had was Juliette Lewis, but I can ignore her. This is a fun ride from beginning to end.

Why have I never seen this?! Or even knew about it...
The story and screenplay is by James Cameron and therein lies the problem. James Cameron is not particularly good in writing dialogue which I mainly had issues with...
All that being said... it's a great movie and shows yet again that Kathryn Bigelow is a very capable director as she has already proven with Near Dark and Point Break.

What a fantastic collaboration between James Cameron for writing this impressive 90's futuristic story and the screenplay and Kathryn Bigelow for directing this fantastic thrill ride! The film's got great leading performances from Ralph Fiennes as Lenny Nero, Juliette Lewis and Angela Bassett. The supporting cast is impressive too with solid performances across the board. The action sequences are simply fantastic, Kathryn Bigelow really shines in that department. This was my 1st viewing of Strange Days and expect to revisit this great film once either the US or UK blu-ray is released. Highly recommended!
