I had been interested to see this before, when it was first announced but for whatever reason I never got around to it. This movie...it was great. It's hard to put into words how crazy, fucked up, and beautiful it was at the same time. Very good movie, highly recommend.

It's like if GOD BLESS AMERICA and KICK-ASS came together and had rough, bloody, but tender anal sex. Assuming, of course, that those two movies were actually good (they are not).
Admittedly, this is not a 5-star film. It's not. The handheld camera got on my nerves and the editing was kind of weird sometimes, but the overall energy and effect of the film trumps any fart-bubbles along the way. Here's why SUPER is so super:
-Ellen Page plays a…

Touching... in a psychotic kind of way.

This film is the gritty vigilante story that provokes the idea of justice. Upon seeing this I first expected a comedy, this is true but only partly. The main character is a low life, a nobody, like most people he just existed. But the departure of his wife Sarah leaves him questioning his nature. Why have all these bad things happened to him? How can he change this? An apparition of a parody Jesus figure comes to him in a…

Overall it's good,
though theres insane violence.
seriously "eurgh" -
What is it with the violent, girly sidekick always stealing the show in this recent rash of "real-life superhero" movies? First Chloe Moretz runs away with Kick-Ass, and now Ellen Page completely owns every single second she appears in Super. It's nearly a trend. Past that, it may not be fair to compare the two movies, as they're more similar in concept than execution. Kick-Ass comes across as just an amped-up, somewhat loopy version of a mainstream superhero film compared…

Superb. I loved this movie. I think my favorite part was Ellen Page's performance. Best black comedy I've seen in a while though. Don't see this if you don't feel like a dark, quirky, film, though.

There are just some films that simply hit the right cord with a specific viewer. With me and 'Super', I see nothing that I dislike. Indie credentials, dark and edgy comedy, surprising moments of sickening ultra-violence, 'super'-heroes, a cracking soundtrack and Ellen Page. Do you just sometimes feel that a film is made specially for you?
I can see why some people may not enjoy it as much. The tonal changes can be fairly unnerving, Liv Tyler is pretty shit…

Even though its tone is all over the place, Super still manages to get away with its cocktail of pitch black comedy, genre satire and compelling drama.
Love him or hate him, Rainn Wilson is the perfect choice for this role. His off beat sense of comedy works really well here, but it is in the smaller, more dramatic moments where I found him to be absolutely convincing. His prayer scene was a thing of brutal, honest, ugly beauty.
