The back-story of this movie can only be described as ludicrous. Filming simultaneously with Superman The Movie back in 1977,this film was set aside in order for director Richard Donner to complete the first of Christopher Reeves's turns as Superman. An approach made famous by Peter Jackson with his filming of all three LOTR films together, Donner's attempts brought friction with Superman producers The Salkinds that resulted in his replacement with Richard Lester.
The film itself has it's moments but lacks the charm of the first movie. Reeve again shines as the man of steel but gets seriously upstaged by Terrence Stamp who proves yet again he can turn his incredible talent to any part. His General Zod may well… -
Like the last film I saw this when I was about 13 years old. Haven't seen it since but I remember liking it. Going back to it I liked it a bit more but not as much as the first one. It's well paced and the villains are awesome. The soundtrack is great once again. The rendition of John Williams score is very well done and well placed in the film. The action scenes are fun. Even though it seems kind of cliched that he would give up his powers (or at least it does now after seeing Spider-Man 2 amongst other superhero films) it works in this story and makes sense. Also it's not that long until he gets…

A marvellous film.
It's fantastic stunts, and Supermans struggle with responsibility, and his love for Lois make this one of the greatest comic book feature films of all time.
Although its probably a little too long, the brilliant cast, great action and humour keep you glued from minute one.

This has one of my favourite opening credits sequences , with Superman being recapped and John Williams amazing theme over the top. Just great. Also great is Terence Stamp , literally stamping his mark on the role of Zod. I don't envy Michael Shannon.

Yeah yeah, my love for Superman is pretty ivident, he's been my favourite since I was a babby, I used to run around pretending to be Superman way longer than a normal child should.
Superman II ranks 3rd on my favourite Superman list. I like III more. DEAL WITH IT. I really dig Lois Lane, I love her in comics and I live Margot Kidder, I just don't want a whole film about their relationship, you know? Lois is way too cool to depend on her menz like that, and I hate seeing Superman weak.
Christopher Reeve was so completely, all encompassingly attractive though. JESUS CHRIST.

Decemberists #9
The intro is a bit lengthy, and is basically a shortened version of the entirety of Superman, so you needn't watch 1 to appreciate 2, but if you have, it's a bit of a "come on we've seen this!" moment.
Kid precariously dangling over the edge at Niagra Falls - "Look at me Mommy!" Mother ignores kid and says "Ah huh, that's nice honey!" Kid falls into water fall. That's got to be the funniest part of the film.
Why does Superman have to lose his powers to get with Lois Lane? That's nonsense, and his Mother lied to him about losing them forever too, he gets them straight back. I don't like liers.
I loved the "I…

forgot how cheesy this actually is, pure comic book fun. but it's pale in comparison to it's predecessor, there's not beating Superman I

Richard Lester patched up the problems behind the scenes when taking over from Richard Donner and breathing more life into the Superman story. Superman without powers used to upset me as a kid but his fall only adds to the impact of his heroic return. Christopher Reeve was one of only a few actors to possess the ability to hold his presence on the screen next to the formidable Terrance Stamp as Zod.
"I see you are practiced in worshiping things that fly. Good. Now, rise before Zod"

After the success of "Superman: the Movie" in the winter of 1978, "Superman II" saw a release in the summer of 1981 (US release date). In actuality the two films were largely filmed simultaneously, but budget concerns and other issues caused the firing of original director Richard Donner over the objections of several cast and crew members. Richard Lester, of 1973's "The Three Musketeers" and the Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night," was his replacement. By all accounts, Lester added more humor into the film. All of Marlon Brando's scenes were replaced with footage of Susanna York as Superman's mother, due to Brando's protesting the use of his time for two films and only being paid for one. Luckily for viewers,…

You know what this is about. Not as good as the first one but better than Superman returns.

While Superman wasn't as campy as I remembered, Superman II retained this trait on rewatch which hurt the film a little for me. My memory was this was the action-packed Superman movie, but it's not really until the last half hour when the action really picks up. The movie feels choppy due to new scenes being filmed by a different director. The performances are very good.

This is a significant step down from the first film. All the grandeur is gone, and replaced with goofy comedy. If it weren't for Zod and some of the Lois and Clark scenes, this wouldn't be worth watching at all. I prefer the Donner Cut, but either version is compromised. I can't believe anyone would say this is the best Superman movie.

I probably have to watch the Donner Cut to rethink about this one.

You can tell two different people directed it with different things in mind for it.
