This isn't as insultingly stupid as the first two and it's not as confusingly about Richard Pryor as the third. But it's still pretty dumb and boring.

There's a scene where Superman and Clark go on a double date with two broads, so he has to keep leaving and changing into the other person like a Three's Company episode (with none of the actual humor).

And Nuclear Man takes a lady into space and she doesn't freeze or suffocate or explode or anything, so that's weird.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's just shit.

So bad, that if you were to throw it in the bin, all the other rubbish in there would climb out.

What is up with Gene Hackman's hair in that photo? He looks like the wind just pushed his toupee to the back of his head.

Despite all of your warning I finally got around to completing the film series and the fourth instalment was every bit as bad as I’d been warned – and worse than I could’ve even imagined. It’s a real shame, because the sensational first film did very well to establish a good set of characters, an impressive cast and endless narrative possibilities. Unfortunately, not enough thought went in to the sequels and not one of them has been able to match…

This movie would have been okay if it didn't suffer from a bad storyline, bad acting, bad directing, bad special effects and dating badly.

Why did the makers of this movie come up with a homo-erotic villain called Nuclear Man instead of using any number of proper villains from the comic books? The whole nuclear arms race gives this a politically correct '80s feel and filming it in Milton Keynes was the final nail in the coffin.

    Best bit: Nuclear…

" It's common knowledge you hate children and animals, Luthor."
Superman 4 simply put is not an intelligent, well thought out film. It's actually quite silly, heavy handed, and poorly written compared to the first two Superman films. There is nothing subtle about the way they handle the subject of a looming nuclear war or....anything for that matter. Nothing is well developed or explained, the pacing is awful and is actually quite difficult to keep track of, motivations are extremely…

This truly is a terrible film, which is such a shame given the previous three Superman films. In its defence, there are some important messages here about the environment, conflict and an interesting backstory about the Daily Planet being taken over by a large corporate and the effect on the editorial. The thing is though, none of these themes are explored, in fact Superman's own fight against his injuries and Nuclear Man aren't explained either. The effects are terrible and Gene Hackman's Lex Luthor is the only reason to watch this.

The franchise leaves the hands of the Salkind's and land squarely into the hands of the Cannon Group, the budget is lower, the special FX are terrible and there are so many unintentionally hilarious moments. Gene Hackman, Chris Reeve and Margot Kidder are the only thing than keeps this film from being a 1 star film.

Even with Mark Rosenthal's candid commentary on, this was an absolute chore.

Chris Reeve continues to add a touch of class to the role that made him, and this time he had a hand in the story too (he was set to direct a number 5, if this had been a success), but he was hamstrung by Cannon slashing the budget in pre-production.

Everything about this film is wrong. Just the opening credits indicate, as Rosenthal puts it, "there's something…
