Synopsis
surviving = never giving up

2014 Directed by Jon Matthews
A young, Appalachian family fights against poverty, substance abuse & the failing health of their child, as she aspires to compete for Little Miss West Virginia.
Though audiences are unlikely to find themselves harbouring masses of sympathy for the two parents - who adhere to the vast majority of Redneck cliches - and Jon Matthews' direction is a bit of a mess, Surviving Cliffside provides a penetrating glimpse into this downtrodden West Virginian trailer park community.
While its mere 66 minute run-time makes it feel a bit scant, it does what any good doc does and makes you feel like you're on the ground with them. Harrowing and insightful.
