Tekken
2010 Directed by Dwight H. Little
Synopsis
Survival is no game
In the year of 2039, after World Wars destroy much of the civilization as we know it, territories are no longer run by governments, but by corporations; the mightiest of which is the Mishima Zaibatsu. In order to placate the seething masses of this dystopia, Mishima sponsors Tekken, a tournament in which fighters battle until only one is left standing.

Computer game to movie conversions don't always work. There's a handful where the resultant film franchise does quite well, or are at least commercially successful, such as the Resident Evil series, Prince of Persia, Tomb Raider etc.
However, more often than not, the films end up as flops. Hardly any effort is put into the film as they know, whatever trash they put out there, there'll be an audience for it.
Quelle surprise that Tekken falls pretty much into that latter category, then. They do quite well to build up the world, introducing it straight from the off with a simple description of why things are the way they are. You then get introduced to Jin, who is a "runner"…

A horrible movie by anyone's standards...but you better believe I'll end up owning it at some point for background noise purposes. It's just ridiculous enough to be entertaining.

Thin plot just to get from one fight scene to another... so pretty much just what I was expecting

Tekken is a video game adaptation that just shies from taken itself too seriously. Adapting a video game, particularly a fighting game, can be a daunting task. Tekken manages to strip the story down to bare essentials, a draconian government run by a corporation and a fighting tournament populated by colorful characters. That's really all you need other than an arc for the central character, Jin, who must use the latter to defeat the former. The good. Casting for the most part is dead on and the costuming helps recreate the iconic characters to the screen. The acting is sound for a movie of this type, melodramatic without devolving into mere histrionics. The world building is convincing enough, with strong…

Unfortunately it didn't live up to my expectations. Awful storyline, awful cast. Where's Xiaoyu first of all? And Hwoarang? And Eddie Murphy like really? This actor? Where is the resemblance anyway? I hope for a another decent movie, with more attracting plot and more suitable actors because I am a big fan of this game, I basically grew up with it!

One of the best noir films of our generation. The acting is superb. The story is rich with passion, revenge, and well coordinated fight sequences.

I grew up playing this game and when I heard that it was being made into a film I had mixed feelings about it. As I loved the game (still do) but every movie adaptation of any Beat'em Up video games I have seen never work at all in anyway.
Upon watching this, it is probably the best one I have seen. It tells the Story of Jin Kazama. After seeing his mother killed by the Tekken Corporation Jin discovers a Tekken tournament ID badge that was his mothers. Seeking out Vengeance Jin enters the tournament in order to bring down Heihachi Mishima and the Corporation.
This film is half and half if we're talking about sticking to the video…

I went into this one expecting crap. What I got was an enjoyable movie based on the video game of the same name. There isn't a lot of depth, but Dwight Little's direction brought enough to make for an entertaining fighting movie. It's not as bad as it looks, but it's also nothing great.
