SXSW Day 5:
An enjoyable ride across the US, listening to folk songs, The 78 Project is less a film and more a prolonged jam session caught both on film and vinyl. The concept of the film is that the directors got a classic vinyl recorder from the 1930's-40's and got as many musicians as they could to choose their own favorite folk song and have it recorded onto a vinyl in one take wherever they wanted. Some chose to record it in their house, outside on their patio, in a park, in a field, wherever the mood struck them.
When not showing the recordings, the film does go somewhat into the history of preservation of the remaining folk songs…
