Talk about a bunch of leeches! Everybody healing themselves on the warm glow each other's tragedies; It feels like this is a pre-planned wellness chain for people who really, you know, just suffer. Sickeningly therapeutic (How much of Kasdan's career can be described as merely therapeutic, though?); Not only are we never really sure it's a movie about actor-as-sedative William Hurt, but the ending is a particularly dimwitted one, pretty much pushing the C/C+ relationship I had with the film over the disparaging side of the fence. Kept trying to enjoy the quirk and rhythm of it and found myself constantly disappointed by Kasdan's quick-pimp style of everyone's "connection". Geena Davis' angry changeover at the end of act two, by the way, is enough to make me want to hit her with that fucking Oscar that ended her career.

Enjoyable.

Lawrence Kasdan was one of those vanilla '80s directors who quickly faded into obscurity once the American independent movement hit in the '90s and audiences began to hunger for things with more edge and bite than his particular brand of filmmaking delivered. Still, when compared to the more banal filmmakers of the time such as Rob Reiner and James L. Brooks, Kasdan is the one of the group who at least presented a few films that I found myself fond of. Yes, his work is rather pedestrian and certainly doesn't leave you with much once the credits roll, but he had a knack for selecting strong actors to portray these deceptively morose characters he constructed.

It's light and charming, and I enjoyed it for what it was. The spark of the film, not surprisingly, comes from Geena Davis in an Oscar-winning performance. Not a game-changer, but a nice little film.

This movie consists of more animal reaction shots than an Iams commercial. Everything that William Hurt wears in this movie looks like it was made from burlap sacks and straw. Geena Davis looks like she stole Edith Bouvier Beale's wardrobe from "Grey Gardens". And Why the hell, if you're a dog trainer, would you wear a skirt with nylons? You would have more runs than Usain Bolt.

Wonderfully observes comedy.

Other than the guy being a writer and writing a book called The Accidental Tourist, I am not sure why this movie would be called this. I am still not sure how I feel about this movie, even two weeks after watching it. Geena Davis was funny in the film with her weird stalker character, but William Hurt and Kathleen Turner’s characters were just so… I don’t know. Neither one of them moved me in any sorta of way. Hurt’s chracter was very blah and boring. I couldn’t care what happened with him. Hell, his family was funnier than any of them. While I can’t say I hated the movie, I can’t say I liked it either. I guess I will just be indifferent over all. I don’t see how it could have won awards.
