Settled in with the wife to watch this tonight having put our 17-month old to bed. After a long week and as relative newcomers to parenthood, we had hoped THE BABYMAKERS (purely based on the title, having no prior knowledge of the plot) might provide some slight but pertinent chuckles in the mould of this year's FRIENDS WITH KIDS or even the lesser LIFE AS WE KNEW IT from a couple years back.
Sadly, the laughs soon dried up: a promising start quickly sunk by a descent into repetative puerile toilet humour in a weak imitation of 'lads misadventure' comedies such as THE HANGOVER.
My biggest draw for the film was the casting of Paul Schneider and Olivia Munn as…

Kevin Heffernan is hilarious...I'd like to be his friend and maybe go bowling or clay pigeon shooting.
Olivia Munn is so lovely...I want to take her on a picnic and after we have eaten we can lie on our backs telling each other what we think clouds look like.
Best 'Broken Lizard' related film there has been since Super Troopers...though to be fair that is not too hard. But this had plenty of laughs and a decent story.
Shame nobody got a moustache ride but one can't have everything!

Even going in with extremely low expectations, I couldn't really find anything positive to talk about and I cannot recommend The Babymakers to anybody.
I gave this movie a shot because I really like Jay Chandrasekhar's work both in and out of the Broken Lizard troupe. Actually, I enjoy, to some extent, pretty much everyone involved in this picture and no one is that bad in their roles. But that just makes things so much more disappointing since the film still manages to be an abysmal dud.
Its rare that I would say this but if you have any inkling to check out The Babymakers, don't do it.

I already knew this got slated when I sat down to watch it. Sorry to say I really liked it - a good old fashioned dialogue driven comedy. Not the best in its class by any means, but if you're a 40 Year Old Virgin or Knocked Up fan, I think it's worth your time.

Another turd from the Broken Lizard guys.

Yeah not really going to recommend this movie. I know it's from the guys who did Super Troopers and stuff but it was just completely unbelievable. There was ZERO chemistry between the two main characters. Though the thing that bugged me the most was a LOT of the dialogue in the movie came across as complete awkward. Not missing anything if you don't see this movie.

Devoted married man Tommy grows increasingly distressed by his failure to impregnate his wife, Audrey. In a desperate bid to have a child of their own, Tommy assembles an oddball group of thieves to steal his long-ago sperm bank donations. (Netflix)
Sperm donation is typically anonymous, right? I’ve never done it so I’m not totally sure of the particulars but I’ve got a hunch that they’re not quite as open as THE BABYMAKERS would have you believe.
Unapologetically massive plot hole aside, this latest offering from Broke Lizard had its heart in the right place. And if nothing else, hats off to this one for being the most evolved and accessible BL movie to date (which is mostly because its…

I had no idea that this film included many of the Broken Lizard troupe and I wish it wasn't as it wasn't very good. Early on, the relationship with Paul Schneider and Olivia Munn was actually pretty good, but once we start getting into the shenanigans, things just get silly and only seldom in a good way.

I don't understand all the bad reviews of Babymakers, a zany comedy about a husband's new-found infertility and quest to retrieve the frozen semen sample that is rightfully his. As a comedy it was effective for me. I think every scene had at least one laugh out loud moment.
There were also some failed jokes and and one or two underwritten supporting characters (the Olivia Munn character's douchey ex-boyfriend and most of the female characters besides her).
The three male leads were acted perfectly with great comic timing. Paul Schneider, usually a dramatic actor or straight man, is wonderful as the dead-pan main character Tommy. Kevin Hefferman and Jay Chandrasekhar (also the film's director) are always funny to me and they get it done again here. Hilarious. The film contains a lot of it is bathroom and bodily secretion humor to be sure, (always to support the main plot, I assure you) but these guys made it work for me.

Funny in spots but not funny enough for me to recommend this to anyone.

This movie was stupid, but cute. There were some pretty funny moment (like horse porn and people masturbating), but nothing hilarious. The plot was pretty generic and predictable, but some characters were great and made any scene they were in much better. Oh, and Olivia Munn is hot, so that's a plus.

Pariskunta survoo pullaa uuniin mutta toukka ei koteloidu. Tuhkamuna päättää ryöstää spermapankin.
Vauvantekohommia sähläävällä otteella. Olivia Munn on nam.

I thought I would hate this, but I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. It was a fairly entertaining movie and if someone is just looking for a silly film on netflix, this fit the bill. I don't like Olivia Munn, but I could handle her in this movie. I don't hate her, but I don't see why everyone loves her so much. I always love heist movies and this was a sperm bank heist movie, so that was pretty original. This wasn't anything special, but it was a decent comedy that I never knew about until coming across it on netflix. I really enjoyed the beginning of the movie, which raised my expectations from the negative ones before starting it. It kind of went down a little, but it was still fun. Paul Schneider was pretty great. I kind of miss him on Parks and Rec, so watching this was nice.

A bit ridiculous, but watchable. If you enjoy Broken Lizard, consider this Broken Lizard Light, with an actual story that has a point.
