"If Hitler didn't kill 6 million Jews, why in the hell is he a hero?" - Danny (Gosling)
Playing a Jew turned Neo-Nazi - it's hard to believe that this is Ryan Gosling's first starring role. Fortunately his brave career move pays off and his confident performance reveals a darker side of his talent, offering a glimpse of the tortured Driver ten years earlier.
The Believer's easiest comparison comes in the form of Shane Meadows' This Is England. The right wing nature of the most extreme skin heads of Yorkshire in the 1980s holds similarities to the Neo-Nazi gang of modern that Danny finds himself involved with, but these similarities lie purely in their fascist philosophy. While Meadows’ classic is…

Ryan Gosling gives an impressive performance. Have not seen all of his work, but can safely assume this is one of his best.

Just wanted to remind phil to see this if he has not done so. If so let's discuss, and if you are NOT phil, we would appreciate some privacy so get out.

It took me a long time to form a coherent opinion on this film. I couldn't even speak an hour after I watched it. I was expecting a B-Grade youth drama and instead received a profound character study, so intense, so powerful and provocative that I was knocked into a stupor.
I can't believe this was one of Gosling's first performances. He carries the entire film, rife with a raw inner turmoil between two doctrines -- his faith in his renounced religion and his adherence to a Neo-Nazi lifestyle.
A very hard-hitting and disturbing film -- but very engaging and almost sickeningly interesting. Does what American History X did, but better.

God damn antisemetic bastards, this is a complete holocaust.

Ryan Gosling gives arguably his best performance in what was also his acting debut, which is even more impressive. He literally commands the screen in an outstanding and raw performance. The film is a very interesting character study. Much of it is reminiscent of American History X, but it's also a little deeper and complex than American History X. It may be a little hard to watch for some, but it reminds us just how powerful a film can be and the emotions a film like this can stir in us. It will be weeks before you can get this thought-provoking film out of your head.

One of the first works of Ryan Gosling and he just delivers his role of a Jewish Nazi perfectly. He is able to portray with greatness both the aggressiveness and hate speeches of his Nazi self, as well as his conflicting feelings of being also a Jew (I can't fathom how can someone would normally get involved in such a movement, let alone someone of Jewish heritage). I knew he was an above than average actor, but this was just amazing, specially for an early work.
The hate speeches are sometimes particularly "painful" in a sense, because they just seem so real to them. The one that struck me me the most, and that was subtly brought back throughout the rest of the movie is when the group mistreats Concentration Camp's survivors, and how what they said stuck to Danny's mind, both in his Jewish and his Nazi self.
The story is based on a true life event.

This is actually a more interesting movie than the more popular neo-nazi movie "American History X". It explores the tenants of Fascism and the religious aspects of it as Danny tries to come to terms with his hatred of judaism and all its beliefs. Also a great performance by the Goose.

This wildly uneven film is carried by Ryan Gosling's superb performance.

Filma par jaunu puisi, ebreju, kurš pieaugoties kļūst par antisemītu.
Man patīk šāda tipa filmas un arī šī "The Believer" bija skatāma.
If hitler didn't exist the Jews would have created him. The holocaust never happened and 6 trillion did not die.
