The Big Hit
Synopsis
Melvin Smiley, a successful young hitman, is living a normal all-day life for his jewish fiancé Pam, but kills for money in Paris' organization. In addition, he has a relationship with a beauty from the neighbourhood and gets bothered by a pimply video store guy, because he did not return "King Kong Lives" for two weeks.

One of my favorite insults from Gregg Araki's "Doom Generation" is Rose McGowan's cry of 'You're a life support system for a cock!' The same could be said of all the main characters in "The Big Hit," a truly obnoxious American action movie in Hong Kong cinema clothing.
The pitch to studio heads probably went something like this: 'It's a male version of Clueless - with guns!' Poor Kirk Wong, one of Hong Kong's most reliable journeyman directors, was saddled with directing this abomination for his big American debut. Even with exec producers Tereance Chang and John Woo helping usher Wong into Hollywood, the results are disastrous.
The only chuckle "The Big Hit" got out of me was its reoccurring…

Can too much tongue in cheek, self-aware humour be bad for a film? Hell no!
This film has absurd humour, silly action sequences, farcical comedy and a hitman addicted to masturbation. What's not to like?
Pure, unbridled fun. Nothing more, but certainly nothing less! -
This movie embodies everything I hate about flashy, overly self-satisfied filmmaking.

Melvin, tuo palkkatappajien kuningas, suorittaa sivutyönä kidnappaus & kiristys -kombinaation. Kohde ei diggaa, että sille vittuillaan.
Sekoiluun nojaavaa takaa-ajoa.

An enjoyable action/comedy romp. Lots of shootouts without any socially redeeming aspect but that kind of seems to be the point. Wahlberg really shows he’s a movie star in this one. Phillips painfully over acts but the rest of the cast is great. Wahlberg as the clueless but dangerous hitman carries movie

Mark's character in this film is one of the dumbest characters ever put on the big screen. He wants to be the nice guy but he has a lady on the side and doesn't know that he is being taken advantage of even though he is a hit man and I don't know how that is even possible. The film has its perks and that is Avery Brooks or Captain Cisco from ST:DSN. Lou Diamond is way over the top but I think that is what they are aiming for. It is clear that when Mark has a good director, he can be a great actor and when he is just doing action films, he kind of phones it in much like he did in this film.

Funny action comedy about hitmen that practically nobody has seen. It is over the top and cheesy but if you don't take it too seriously you will have a good time.

Not great, but I still think it's a fun action comedy that can only work in the context of the '90s.
