The Big Lebowski
1998 Directed by Joel Coen, Ethan Coen
Synopsis
They figured he was a lazy time wasting slacker. They were right.
Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski is the ultimate LA slacker, until one day his house is broken into and his rug is peed on by two angry gangsters who have mistaken him for Jeffrey Lebowski, the LA millionaire, whose wife owes some bad people some big money. The Dude becomes entangled in the plot when he goes to visit the real Lebowski in order to get some retribution for his soiled rug, and is recruited to be the liason between Lebowski and the captors of his now "kidnapped" wife.

The Big Lebowski is one of those rare films that gets better with every showing. Literally every single time, the charm of this movie reminds viewers that this is the Coen Brothers at their best.

The Coen Brother's comedies are always set in a universe that doesn't feel real. With perhaps A Serious Man being the exception, films like Hudsucker Proxy, Burn After Reading and Intolerable Cruelty all feel like they take place in the same, slightly off beat universe existing parallel to our own. Within it, the Big Lebowski is master of the universe.
If there is one thing the brothers do well it is firmly establishing the rules in a film. The second you step into the world of the Dude, you know what you're in for. Normal rules don't apply and all characters will be archetypes, altered and moulded to fit snugly in their bizarre world.
As bizarre as the plot is,…

DUDE The Big Lebowski is AWESOME! I loved everything about this film!
The characters are just great. The bowling trio, Walter Sobchak the crazy Vietnam veteran played by John Goodman, Donnie played by Steve Buscemi and "The Dude" excellently played by Jeff Bridges. DUDE The Dude is one of the best characters of all time! John Turturro always will remain in my memory as Jesus. He was hilarious!
It was so funny! I laughed so much!
Yeah, I just love when a film enters directly to my list of favorites! -
This film never turns stale no matter how many times I watch it. You know why?
Because it has got the coolest character in all of film universe in, His Dudeness.
I absolutely love it.

Yeah, that was just as good as you said it was. Thank you Letterboxd.
Anyway, yeah. I just love everything about this film - the writing, The Dude, the rest of the characters, The Dude, the soundtrack, The Dude...you get the picture. I'm really trying my best not to just keep saying "I just love this movie" over and over again by the way. But yeah, I really fucking love this movie.
Did I mention The Dude? Because now I know why every seems to be obsessed with him. Shit, I'm rambling on about things again. Sorry. Definitely one of the funniest films I've seen though. Also, I think I may be Donny reincarnated into reality. Even though I'm older than the film. Just go with it. Oh, and can I hire Sam Elliott to narrate my life? That would be awesome.

"Dude"!
This is the film that taught a whole generation how to use the infamous "F" word, as a noun, verb, adverb, and adjective with lots of good examples of each. "Shut the F**k up; Donnie"This is a ridiculous, long time favorite of mine that I bring out for a rewatch every year or so....about this time. :-)
The Coen Bros. spun their magic in a totally different direction with this one. Jeff Bridges and John Goodman are hilarious in their roles.
This is one of the most rewatchable films ever made.
I have seen Lebowski several times and I still enjoy the stupid thing every time.
See this one for sure if you have missed it, and consider…

Pretty good film! Had me laughing quite a bit. Everyone told me this movie was one of the best though, and although I enjoyed myself throughout, I don't necessarily want to praise it as something perfect. Overall though, I would consider it a must-see and a film with a lot of potential for a second viewing!

A laid back slacker (Jeff Bridges) and his high strung buddy (John Goodman) get caught up in a complex kidnap scheme.
"The Big Lebowski" has amassed a huge cult following, so I came to this film with high expectations. I enjoyed it, but I must admit that I don't see why it has inspired such devotion that annual conventions are held and books have been written in its honor. However, it has an offbeat rhythm and there may be more than meets the eye at a first viewing. The Coen brothers devote as much screen time (or maybe more) to bowling and the men who enjoy such simple pleasures as they do to the busy machinations of the crime and the schemers behind it, which suggests that they have something to say about what really matters in life. I own a copy of the film, I will certainly watch it again, and I suspect that it will grow on me.

The Big Lebowski is one of those rare pieces of cinematic genius in which seemingly get better upon each repeat viewing.
The Film contains fantastic and unforgettable performances along with eloquent dialogue from such Characters as Walter Sobchak (John Goodman) who is a traumatized Vietnam Veteran with a tendency to equate all hardship and suffering with that of his buddies in Vietnam, and from Jeffery Lebowski - "The Dude" played by Jeff Bridges.
As well as this, the seemingly ridiculous story-line is pieced together in such a way which creates a majestic viewing for anyone watching it. Strongly recommended for anyone who hasn't seen it.
The Cohen Brothers at their best.

A film that gets better every time you view it, which should solidly place this film as one of the best ever made.

Be aware, this is not a review from The Big Lebowski, it's a review of the White Russian that I drank today.
I was at this bar today, with some friends, when I saw that drink from the movie at the menu, actually, it mentioned the movie in the description, so a friend of mine ordered the drink, since he was also curious to now what the Dude liked so damn much about that drink.
The first doubt we had was about mixing it or not, since the coffee was clearly in the bottom, while the white vodka was on top, so we (that included everybody in the table, curious with our curiosity, while I tried to explain to some…

This is by far one of the best comedies ever made. The Coen Brothers have crafted one terrific film with The Big Lebowski. A terrific cast is assembled here, and the characters are eccentric and unforgettable. A true Cult classic in its own right, The Big Lebowski is a terrific film filled with laughs, bowling and White Russians. This is one of my favorite films. Some people say that Old School is better, but those people have the intelligence of a 1 year old. This is a film that has stood the test of time, and The Lebowski Fest proves it Following in the success of Fargo, The Coen Brothers .have created one of the most memorable films. The Big…
