Reviews of The Book of Eli 2010
-
A thought provoking and exceptionally acted film.

Action, steady plot, nice balance of genres. Gary Oldman is an effective villain. Also, really enjoyed the color palette and score for the film. There are several points in the second and third acts which could be tightened up, but overall the picture is well made.

Denzel Washington and Gary Oldman in a post apocalyptic world
2 great actors giving solid performances in a more than decent film

¨I fought the good fight, I finished the race, I kept the faith.¨
The last movie the Hughes brothers had directed was From Hell back in 2001 with Johnny Depp. After being absent for 9 years they are back directing this sci-fi post- apocalyptic epic movie starring Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, and Mila Kunis. The wait was well worth it because twin brothers Albert and Allen have made one of the best movies of the year so far. The cinematography…

Two hours of warmed-over post-apocalyptic cliches slathered in a dollop of hokey, faith-is-all-you-need spiritualism. And then there's a twist ending that the movie comes nowhere close to selling.

Con base argumental y resolución pobre, me parece bastante aburrida en lineas generales. Aún así, para un ratejo, está potable.

A preachy film suggesting that true faith is within one's self. I liked the cinematography, the score, and Denzel's performance. The message is clear, and I would tend to think that the religious and spiritual among us will enjoy this film much more than I did.

Gary Oldman + Denzell Washington + Mila Kuniz in a Christian Post-Apocalyptic action film = my type of film. The ending kind of ruins it, but nonetheless it's a fun action movie.

I've slept on this film since it came out in 2010. It received mostly middle of the road to bad reviews from critics so I just never watched it. After joining Letterboxd over a year ago now, I read some reviews that encouraged me to give it a chance.
Right from the beginning I was into it. First the visual style and look of the post apocalyptic world grabbed my attention. Then Denzel comes along all bad ass and shit…

Not very interesting, Denzel is always fun to watch and the action scenes are very good, however the plot is almost non existent and it all relies a lot in the big reveal at the end which I didn't particularly care for.
