Eli is inspired, but it doesn't get us invested in the characters and expects us to accept what's happening without explanation or reason. The American accent by Oldman is pretty awful, too, although I guess it's good practice for him. The movie is colorless and half the action scenes don't even have music, which can be abit iffy at points. Washington is good as ever but we can't invest ourselves in his character as we learn little about him. The…

OLD REVIEW: Gritty violence and a somewhat spiritual undertone, this movie blows your mind in the best ways possible. Stellar preformences by Gary Oldman, Denzel Washington, and Mila Kunis

This is a great film. The deep storyline of a post apocalyptic world and a man just trying to complete the task the Lord has set him out on. Gary Oldman does a great job as the "bad guy". He believes that by holding the "book" he can make all the world follow his lead just because he is the only one who holds the word of God. Sure, critically I'm sure it's not a raving favorite, but for the…

    gut gespielt
    netter Look
    manche Szenen mit coolen Kamerafahrten

    streckenweise etwas langezogen
    Motivation einiger Charaktere nicht nachvollziehbar
    Charaktere bleiben insgesammt etwas blass

I like Denzel Washington a lot. I like Gary Oldman a lot. I like the whole Aftermath-ish post-apocalyptic genre and there are a lot of fun bits, including some insane fighting skills by the Eli character, a surprise visit by Malcolm McDowell, a great tea party/gunfight to Anita Ward.

I am torn by the whole Christian element of the plot, which is integral to the story and yet still manages to feel tacked on. I think a more inspiring Christian…

This review reportedly contains spoilers. I can handle the truth.

I saw this in the theater. Good cinematography and muted colors made it visually memorable. Some fun action sequences. Didn't see the twist coming. Thought that the book being the Bible was lame.
