Good dumb fun in a half-dead world. Very silly in parts, but still a good time. Kunis' character was trying, though.

Very disappointing movie. Slow to build up and then finishes poorly. One of Washington's weaker movies

Lots of fights. Keeps you on the edge of your seat. Good twist.

Having put a bow on the "Mad Max" series I decided to (re)visit "The book of Eli", which I had watched a few years back udner very ambiguous circumstances, but remembered nothing about it. And...

It's such a retarded movie that I think I am now dumber. I really think I left a few IQ points somewhere in that uninspired universe, where Denzel Washington carries the Bible through a post-apocalyptic wasteland, and where Gary Oldman looks for a Bible to…

Cinematically this film falls a little flat in its pacing. The last 30 minutes (after Mila Kunis escapes Carnegie for good) are a bit of a slog. However, this is probably one of the most important christian films in decades in terms of what its saying about christians and how they use the bible. And for that I give it a lot of slack.

The plot is pure EC Comics, and that is a compliment. I wish the script had been stronger, and less cartoonish about the Gary Oldman character.
The look and the tone are believable, even though heightened, and the world-building is a fine balance of fresh ideas within our expectation of what life After will be like.
But Oldman twirls too much moustache and his goons are too unquestioning and stooopit, right when we need to believe in the stakes.

Eli is inspired, but it doesn't get us invested in the characters and expects us to accept what's happening without explanation or reason. The American accent by Oldman is pretty awful, too, although I guess it's good practice for him. The movie is colorless and half the action scenes don't even have music, which can be abit iffy at points. Washington is good as ever but we can't invest ourselves in his character as we learn little about him. The…
