Not being able to undo your past deeds is the greatest pain of all. Knowing that nothing can be done is the greatest torture of all. Hurting your loved one for their well being and bearing the brunt of it is the greatest sacrifice of all.
The sacrifice made by Evan made my heart ache. This film had such an impact on me. The ending brought tears to my eyes :(

Quentin Tarantino said the whole reason he casted John Travolta in Pulp Fiction was because as fantastic of an actor Travolta is (especially in Blow-Out, one of his favorites) no directors really use him to his full potential and instead pick him up for stupid rom-coms. I would say exactly the same thing about Ashton Kutcher.
Yeah yeah I know you're already giving me looks about claiming Kutcher is a good actor. Honestly, I think that this film proved he was filled with talent. He was excellent in this and if he picked better projects post-That 70's Show, I think we'd be calling him an excellent actor. A lot of the cast give great performances here (even Amy Smart who…

Thriller, Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart
It's been a few years since I have last seen this, I have probably watched it two maybe three times before. This time was the best and most enjoyable watch. It just seemed since I'm older and a much more "veteran" movie watcher that I just got it and the depth of it effected me more. I always love time travel movies they are easily at the top of my list when done right. This story can all of the sudden surprise you as it shifts into a hellish nightmare.
Minor spoiler:
Ashton Kutcher is a boy who finds out he has an ability to travel back in time by reading his diary and… -
Get high and watch the making of this film.
BLEW MY FUCKING MIND
BLEW IT.The end.

It's rare to find a picture that does the flashback and forward in time, and still keep a grip on the plot. Ashton is good in this, it'll keep you guessing right to the cyclic end. All the characters and all the interpretations of them are solid

This is amazing no matter how many times I watch it.
Although it did get a bit more awkward after having recently watched several seasons of That '70s Show...

This rating is for the Director's Cut version. Had it been the original theatrical ending I would have scored this a lot lower, but I've given it a whole extra star purely for the fantastic ending!

I just. Whoa. What did I just watch? I came for the time-travel and stayed for the Kutcher (spoiler: he can act). Dark, disturbing and heart-breaking, The Butterfly Effect is, in my opinion, quite underrated (going on the fact that I'd never heard of it until last weekend).

i really hope evan (kutcher) doesn't reproduce

Ashton Kutcher is gross.

This isn't a bad movie. It has it's cheesy parts and I think it shows that Ashton Kutcher can be a really good actor.

Apart from Kutcher, I wasn't wholly convinced on an acting level. However, besides that, CGI and plot was good - dark, almost disturbing in places, but good - as were the philosophical possibilities within the entire film.
It's a fascinating concept, that everything could be so infinitely different if just one seemingly tiny thing changes, put into a gripping context for a satisfying ending. -
