Comedies such as this are entirely predictable in their intent; cram in as many fart and dick jokes as possible and hope that you recognise the satire as substance. While not entirely successful on either level, this was nowhere near the stinker I had anticipated, on one hand it paints the road to congress with broad strokes that it is more a feature wall than a mosaic, happy to take stabs along the way but pussies out in the generic finale.
As far as the breed of comedy, it is purely what we have come to expect from Will Ferrell, yet I found myself laughing quite loud at some of the scenarios and lines throughout. Galifianakis plays a less nuanced…

100th film of The December Project
aka I FUCKING DID IT!
My last film of Cinebro's crazy bonkers The December Project was supposed to be Lawrence of Arabia, an epic adventure film that I've really, really wanted to see. I thought it was about 2 and a half hours long. It was four. So that plan quickly went out the window, sadly.
I picked this instead, mostly because of its short running time. I had to get some headphones and sit on the floor in a corner to finish it, as the party I was hosting had started (that's called DEDICATION!), but finish it I did.
And you know what? It was really, really funny. Yes, it's mostly a bunch…

The Campaign is a curious mongrel of a movie. On the one hand it attempts to attack the American political system, its corruption and the ridiculous circus that surrounds the lengthy and costly campaign trail, yet at the end it wimps out in favour of a feelgood Capra-esque conclusion where good ol’ American values win out over greed and lies. Perhaps it is wrong to expect any more from a film of this kind but it is a lot more fun when poking fun at the ridiculousness of the campaign machine than when reinforcing righteous values.
Anybody who has seen a Will Ferrell comedy in the past ten years will be familiar with the brand of comedy on display in…

Wan't a smart, intelligent, and witty take on the American election process? Forget that The Campaign even exists, and watch the last season of Parks & Recreation.

I was wary going into this because I felt Zach was a one trick pony and I knew Will Farrell was a one trick pony. However I was pleasantly surprised by this, it was a fun and often hilarious satire on American politics.
Both actors do their thing, they were enjoyable to watch the whole way through and didn't even get irritating as they are both known to do. Zach plays some one slightly different than usual but Will plays the same character he plays in most of his other films. The humor was juvenile at times but it was intentional to highlight the levels of stupidity and fraud in American politics. For most of the film it nails it…

Sin llegar a los niveles de autoinmolación de otras magnas obras de Will Ferrel, "The Campaign" te arrancará más de una carcajada y deja en evidencia lo absurdo que es el lenguaje y discurso político. O más bien sus votantes.

Two of America's funniest funny guys together on screen still isn't as funny as Basil Marceaux-dot-com.

Watched in the early hours of the morning while holding a grumpy baby.

The exact predictable sum of Jay Roach plus Ferrell and Galifianakis.

The penultimate scene in the film ends with the crowd chanting "it's a mess." I imagine that's what most theater showings were like for The Campaign.

Lots of laughs, way more than I expected, it has some very good gags, punching the baby and then the Artist's dog is very funny. But even though I laughed a lot I didn't really care for anyone in it, it's not like good comedies where you laugh but you also care about the outcome. On this one I laughed, but the 'message' felt tacked on and mostly an afterthought.
