The Chumscrubber
2005 Directed by Arie Posin
Synopsis
The Chumscrubber is a dark comedy about the lives of people who live in upper-class suburbia. It all begins when Dean Stiffle finds the body of his friend, Troy. He doesn't bother telling any of the adults because he knows they won't care. Everyone in town is too self consumed to worry about anything else than themselves. And everybody is on some form of drug just to get through their days.

As a teenage boy committed suicied, the laid on frontage of an american suburb starts to crumble.
"The Chumbscruber" is an wonderful satirical and socio-critical movie which's fixing the american way of life.

Honestly? Just watch Donnie Darko instead.

Great flick! Like Edward Scissorhands meets Donnie Darko.

Great cast but not much else. I think this film had potential, exploring the (not unique) themes of an idyllic suburban neighborhood festering with sub-surface deficiencies. The surrealism of integrating the video game didn't really work for me. I also don't get the dolphin motif at all, and there was a general lack of explanation. Would be 2 stars if not for the cast.

The pool party sets the tone for an epic on what Chap Clark calls 'the world beneath.'

A satire in the same vein as American Psycho, no one listens to anyone, everyone's on drugs and kids are running around playacting like adults and just trying to survive their clueless parents. There's something beautiful about this movie that involves a disembodied video game character, dolphins, kidnappings, happy accidents and the blackest of humor. Beyond the superb and intensely dark moments, though, the finest and most touching scenes are between Bell and the two mothers - there's nothing better than Dean's final introduction of Troy to his mom. And there's also Rooney's fantastic Sleep Song on the soundtrack.

This film was borrowed to me by a friend, and I have to admit I had never heard of it.
It's a terrific movie! An intriguing, dark, abstract view into upper class suburbia and how truly fucked up it can be.
