Palme d'Or in 2008, really? Well, it's not the contest that has produced the bulk of my personal favourites exactly, so what do I know. But it should mean that it has something extra in one way or another, like cinematic style or a daring story. It hasn't. I can only find one thing that makes this stand out above average, and that is the acting. But they don't award Palme d'Ors for that.
It's a conventional classroom drama from a Parisian «tough neighborhood» with a bit of racial conflict (just a bit of lip), language barriers and teacher frustration. Not more than you would expect. Everything falls into place when one student is expelled, was it the right decision?…

Wasn't focused on the movie but I enjoyed it to a extent.
The kids really don't look like fourteen years olds and they are pictured incredible stupid. That makes the movie kinda boring.
The intelligent location, the acting of François Bégaudeau and the interesting story are compensating the weak aspects. -
2008's THE CLASS was nominated as Best Foreign Film by our Academy and actually won the Cannes Film Festival's Palme d'Or (apparently unanimously). Was all that praise warranted? Well, I haven't seen the vast majority of films it competed against at Cannes, nor have I seen most of the foreign films nominated for an Oscar that year. However, I found THE CLASS to be a bit overrated but still a very worthwhile film. It shows us various moments in the year of a French provincial school led by an enthusiastic teacher played by François Bégaudeau in a terrific performance. The students -- too numerous to name or identify in another way here -- are also terrific and, as they should,…

Some people might thing this review is not fair of me, but I just can't avoid. I've seen it only as a request from a teacher, and I regret doing it.
First of all, I'm really sick and tired of those french dramas my teachers made me watch along five years of college, and I hate even more those school movies, they are all the same, only the name changes. I've seen the same story over and over again, in movies from France, UK, US, Brazil, Germany and I don't even know what goddamned country, I'm just done with it. This one is the worst so far, not only because of my lack of patience to it, but also because…

I love movies where the events take place in an environment of minimum locations, especially in the classroom.
Palme d'Or in 2008! -

This film basically explained why I don't want to teach. The kids were such great assholes.
