The Commitments
1991 Directed by Alan Parker
Synopsis
They had nothing to lose, they risked it all.
Jimmy Rabbitte, just a tick out of school, gets a brilliant idea: to put a soul band together in Barrytown, his slum home in north Dublin. First he needs musicians and singers: things slowly start to click when he finds three fine-voiced females virtually in his back yard, a lead singer (Deco) at a wedding, and, responding to his ad, an aging trumpet player, Joey "The Lips" Fagan.

A St. Patrick's Day review for Bret Easton Ellis
In an attempt to make life less dull. I decided to celebrate my other half's Irish heritage on St. Patricks Day, by renting an Irish classic
. We had reservations for our own kitchen at 10am where I made a breakfast of potato cakes, soda bread, eggs and sausages. Should have had white pudding but the bird insists this Scottish stuff is not the same and she doesn't like it. I would have made bacon but we're having cabbage and bacon with the Steak & Stout pie I'm in the process of making. Smells fucking fit TBH!
I attempted to buy some green socks for Jo, for fun, on my trip to…

Crude, rude and funny as fuck this film has everything.Great music, story and one of the most quotable films of the nineties. Alan Parker directs this Dublin set film full of old soul classics and brilliant one-liners. Colm Meaney has rarely been better. Iconic view of Ireland's working class this is comedy gold.Incidently voted best Irish film of all time.

The greatest film about a Dublin soul band you're ever likely too see. Soundtrack is killer.

Recomendable. -

Their singer is not sixteen-years-old. I refuse to believe this.

Ah yes, one of my go to movies when I'm down. Never fails to cheer me up. Excellent performances from a cast of mainly novices, great humour, brilliant renditions of soul classics.
I must have seen this movie 50 times and I still love it.
"What did Evel Knievel want?"
"God sent him."
"Wha'?"
"God sent him."
"On a fuckin' Suzuki?!"

"There is a wonderful soundtrack to this film - the story of a (fictional) Dublin soul band. Great humour too!"
