As has been the trend with recent WWII films, 'The Counterfeiters' focuses on one small, interesting aspect of the war, rather than attempting to convey the true scale of events. However, due to this tight focus on one concentration camp, and in particular one man, I felt that the film didn't truly express the importance of the events portrayed, with only the final, narrated line providing the historical context I craved.
Bookmarked by scenes in Berlin and Monte Carlo, this film spends the majority of its time in one setting, a fairly decent camp for Nazi prisoners. The lack of any real danger, due to both the structure of the film and the moral ambiguity of most of the characters…

Unspectacular but interesting. Part of the more recent breed of WW2 films that skirt the periphery of the big event. I find this new brew infinitely more fascinating than the old school John Wayne Pow Gun variety.

The problem with films set in and around World War 2 is that they have a massive uphill struggle on their hands. World War 2 is taught to us from a pretty young age, and it is taught to us in quite a lot of detail. Not only that but the simple facts of the war are so shocking that they stick with you forever. Because of this, any film set then has to try particularly hard to tell you something new or interesting, rather than simply being the same old story.
Counterfeiters does this really rather well. Before the film was released I was not aware of the story it tells Nazis using counterfeiters in order to print money…

World War 2 never ceases to throw out amazing stories. This superb drama tells of secret German plan to flood and destroy the British and American economies with counterfeit dough, and the crack team of concentration camp inmates chosen to do the job. Fascinating study of survival via collaboration and the prisoners’ ensuing struggle with their own moral code. Light on atrocities, though one unwelcome golden shower may cause sensitive viewers to blanch. Mournful score is heavy on the harmonica, which makes a refreshing change from the manipulative orchestral swoops you’d expect.

Die Fälscher
"The story of a group of concentration camp prisoners who were forced to take part in Operation Bernhardt, an attempt to destablise the economies of the Allies during WWII by using counterfeit currency. The prisoners are a mixture of people; Jews, communists, criminals and the film doesn't show them as particularly pleasant. They have to cope with the knowledge that their work is helping the Germans, that their work is buying them special privileges and that their families and friends elsewhere are being treated very much more harshly than them. I thought that this dilemma was explored very well; they had to come to terms with the effects that sabotage would have upon their fellow prisoners and themselves. They had to decide whether it was better to be a dead hero or to protect their chances of survival." -
Bjorn bedankt voor de tip ! Grote klasse.

Das Ende und der Monaco-part... irgendwie seltsam.
Und was war jetzt mit seiner Familie, irgendwie war seine Rolle nicht soo tief beschrieben.krasse Thematik, wie's meistens so is.

This was downloaded four years ago by me, it was on my desktop, traveled to my laptop, and finally I watched it today. It was a crime; ended well though, as the movie was richly rewarding, a true story that is almost fantastical, with an amazing background score and a stellar performance by Karl Markovics. Too good.

In order to survive, a Jewish forger is used by the Nazi's to create counterfeit currency in order to destabalize the British and American economies. Great film about what people have to do in order to survive.

Interesante cinta de la situación de una minoría de presos judíos en el que supervivencia y valores morales chocarán entre sí.
