Well this was a nice surprise. The Day is a perfectly capable post-apocalyptic movie that, while its low budget peaks through every now and again, actually tells a pretty interesting story with some fun (albeit a tad one dimensional) characters and an interesting scenario: its our band of weary travelers vs. a pack of survivor-eating cannibals that takes place after ten long years since things went to hell.
The first thing you will notice about The Day is its bleakness. This is not because of our gaunt protagonists, but the in your face desaturation of the actual image that will never go away. It is a bit shocking and more work to adjust to than I expected it to be,…

I actually though this was a really pretty decent post-apocolyptic film.
There are enough world mechanics set up so that the question of why doesn't get in the way too often, and instead you can enjoy the film for it's atmosphere, blunt dialogue and fantastic visuals. The desaturation is a bit much but the direction and the sound is fantastic.
And I hope we'll see a lot more of Ashley Bell who is *brilliant*.

Set in a post-apocalyptic world, five survivors take shelter in a deserted farmhouse. However they soon find their new home is a trap and a cannibal clan are coming to get them. In essence The Day is a siege movie, but the character dynamics keep things interesting - it also helps that the cast - which includes the likes of Shawn Ashmore, Dominic Monaghan and Shannyn Sossamon - are billed alphabetically so there's no clues as to who is going to lead the action. With most of the action in one location, it does however drag a little, and it's not helped that the film is desaturated of all colour (something I hate) - a shame too that Michael Eklund's character looks great but is sorely underdeveloped. It's quite bloody and it will be interesting to see what director Doug Aarniokoski does with a bigger budget.

A low budget very bleak post apocalyptic short movie about the world 10 years past an unknown fate, leaving life as we know it as a faded memory.
Supplies are in short order causing the survivors to make a choice, become cannibals or become prey.
5 survivors on the road to nowhere, hoping to find the ideal place to grow some seeds, need a rest stop because one of them is pretty sick. Low on ammo and low on food they decide to camp out in an abandoned farmhouse. That was not the right decision....
Although this movie features Michael Eklund (the divide, watchmen) and Dominic Monaghan (Lord of the rings, lost, flash forward) the one actress who does stand…

You know when you start watching a movie and you see it’s produced by WWE Studios that you're in for a fun time. Though, oddly 'The Day' doesn't actually star any WWE Wrestlers. I don't know whether to be disappointed by that or not. This is one of those cheap post-apocalyptic future movies where you just have a band of grungy survivors who have to fight off a small army of oh so scary bandit/whatever you call a group of murdering psychopaths. But hey, it's got Dominic Monaghan from Lord of the Rings and Lost in it. Though that's not saying much. The films tagline "FIGHT. OR DIE." pretty much sums it up. You can't say it’s not wrong as…

What kind of absolute moron would have the climax of his stupid movie take place in 30 minutes of complete darkness that you have to rape the gamma settings on your monitor just to come close to seeing what's going on? Douglas Aarniokoski, that's who.
It's really a shame that this movie is bad, because it starts out pretty promising, the premise ("what if The Road had a plot") is cool, production value is much higher than it has any right to be, and the atmosphere is great. It is, however, bad. The monsters don't make sense, the action is invisible, the characters are shallow as can be, and Pippin is no Aragorn. Avoid unless inebriated with friends.

A nice little post apocalyptic flick.
Atmospherically this recalled "The Road" to me. It's clearly not in the same league quality wise, but it's more on the horror and action side of all things post apocalypse anyway. The performances are alright except for Shannyn Sossamon who gets kinda annoying, because she seems to... well... be acting. The other performances feel far more natural and Ashley Bell is quite badass.
Every shot is heavily desaturized and the practical effects look nice. The bunch of CGI blood splatter sucks but considering this is a low budget movie that can be tolerated.
The soundtrack is quite cool, recalling some of John Murphys work for 28 Days later. So obviously this is not the most original flick, but with a running time of 87 minutes this will hardly feel like wasted time for you, if you're post apocalyptic movies.

This review reportedly contains spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Intriguing story but without the head and tail, so to speak, without real beginning and real ending, as if this was a pilot episode for a series that never got greenlighted. If that was the case, I would have been interested to see the rest. As it is, I am not sure I like it or not. There were some interesting ideas, but not delved deep upon, so it's hard to say was it worth the time invested.

A less than mediocre film that could have offered something better but instead felt underdeveloped with unappealing characters. It did have some decent scenes but too far between that it was hard to invest in that I even found myself feeling annoyed with a lot of the performances. The near colorless environment was a nice touch but felt overused to save on money and hide the poor CGI, rather than for dramatic effect. I cant say it was entirely bad but still not worth adding to any list.

I had a bit of hope, but it didnt really go anywhere special and the siege throughout concerning the house could have been exploited much more

Ok imagine if The Walking Dead and The Hills Have Eyes (creepy and cannibal like not inbredness and deformity) had a evil baby, that is what you get with this one...
Post apacalypse, five survivors are trying to stay alive. Unfortunately they have a few problems:
1. No food
2. One of them is sickly
3. They are being hunted by cannibals
4. One of their own might be playing for the other sideDespite these factors or even because of them, they stumble upon an old farm house seemingly abandoned. When two of the five want to leave the house they are out voted and so begins their ultimate demise... Thinking they have found food the trigger a trap…

Pretty solid first half before turning into a fairly standard siege movie with an emotional anchor. Overall, not bad, and nice and breezy at only 80 minutes. The chick from Last Exorcism is kinda bad ass in this.
