Movies about/starring women. I originally started this list just as a reference for myself, but hopefully others will find it…
The Edge of Love
The only thing more dangerous than war... is love.
Two feisty, free-spirited women are connected by the brilliant, charismatic poet who loves them both.
Movie is about Dylan Thomas and his numerous lovers. That might mean something to people who know who Dylan Thomas is....but I am not one of those people. So not knowing anything about him....I came to the conclusion that he was not a very nice person. But he hung around other not nice people....so he fits in well. Three of the four main characters....lie, cheat and seem pretty selfish. The fourth main character goes to war and comes back as an abusive violent person. By the end of the movie I did not care what happened to these people. Probably not the goal of the movie.
It's an average film elevated by it's two incredibly beautiful female leads. They have a chemistry between them that make them fun to watch but the film stumbles all over itself anytime they interact with the male actors.
Two feisty, free-spirited women are connected by the brilliant, charismatic poet who loves them both. The poet in question is Dylan Thomas who come across as a self centred moody genius , The two woman are his wife Kathleen a troubled promiscuous woman played brilliantly by Sennia Miller and Vera his childhood sweetheart who is now married to a soldier, Enjoyable drama
In this biopic about the English poet Dylan Thomas I found this boring and nothing convincing, the only thing that saves it is the music (Angelo Badalamenti: Mulholland Drive, Twin Peaks ...) and a nice photograph (Jonathan Freeman: Games thrones, Boardwalk Empire ...).
The stunning Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller are well cast in this heartfelt war-time drama. The Edge Of Love thrives from its good performances combined with incredible chemistries, but its style is also visually impressive with beautiful scenery, set designs and costumes. Based loosely on the real life of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, the story is emotional and engaging, and it does well to distinguish itself from the many other Knightley-led romantic dramas.
Lovely; bit of a case of style over substance but very well acted, and the setting was incredible. I'm a bit of a one for South Wales at the best of times but it was SO well shot.
De lo que menos me gustó que hizo Keira.
"I do it because i'm a poet, and poets feed off of life!"
The story of war time London, the womanizing poet Dylan Thomas and the two gorgeous women in his life. Free spirits, big emotions, longing, despair and jealousy and without forgetting the mayhem and agony of the war and.... uniforms. Beautiful film with lovely characters. Finally something that made me feel like reading poetry.
i am such a slut for keira knightley in anything
Why aren't Keira and Sienna's characters gay though?
Dylan Thomas, kind of a prick.
Bellos versos de Dylan Thomas, si ese fue el gancho, funcionó, la aguanté hasta el final.
This is a classic example of how a movie doesn't come together, despite many things that should result in a good movie. Acting was fine, story was okay, costumes were great. But it just all felt so blah.
Cost: free from library
Where watched: at home, while the freezing rain started.
One star for Kiera, one for Sienna, they are great in their scenes together. The rest is well, meh.
Sort of similar to a bad version of Atonement.
All the way from 'The Land Before Time' to 'The Social Network'.
(Read notes for dates.)
Work in progress, will…
