In pre-unified China, the King of Qin sends his concubine to a rival kingdom to produce an assassin for a political plot, but as the king's cruelty mounts she finds her loyalty faltering.

Steeped in the tradition of dramatic Chinese films, this is a fine political chess game, well realized as a historical epic with strong characters. Often a challenging and moving collection of great scenes, quiet decisions and heartbreaking realizations. Admirable, but sensationalized.
