Guys, you have to promise me that if I'm snatched up and murdered by a serial killer, you only allow David Fincher to turn it into a movie.
When the Cage turns 50 you either rewatch one of his moments of genius or you try to complete his filmography.
I have been known to make the worst decisions ever and this is no exception.
Let's not talk about how this is a 'been there done that' two star thriller.
Let's not talk about the fact that the Cage is the best thing in it, which unfortunately these days doesn't mean that much.
Let's not talk about the fact that you know how this film will end before it even started.
Instead let's talk about the end credits. And how they fucking pissed me off. Basing a thriller on real events is fine. Dramatizing those events is fine. Turning…
After watching this movie, I am definitely going to remember 50 Cent for two things: "In Da Club" and that godawful haircut.
I found this movie on Paramount+ while looking for some quick entertainment, though I thought it was a throwaway straight to VOD crappy Nic Cage and John Cusack movie. As it turns out, this had a solid cast and it has a Fresh Tomatoes rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Plus I'm always game for a good true-crime flick.
Despite the shaky camerawork and choppy editing, I am grateful that it wasn't as egregious as other films that rely heavily on this style. While the score was at times overbearing, it was by Lorne Balfe, so at least it was…
My fiance admitted she thinks Nicholas Cage is a terrible actor and honestly I'm really glad she told me. The wedding is in two weeks so she gave me enough notice to cancel.
What better way to commemorate the actual victims than with a slide show with some butt rock playing over top. Cage and Hudgens are decent in this but it's such a vanilla serial killer film true story or not.
between this and High Fidelity John Cusack is indeed good at playing pretty creepy dudes. might have been his downfall in Hollywood though.
When these movies focus on the cops, there is almost always a cop who is having trouble in his marriage. Why this trope exists to humanize cops is beyond me, as all it really does is emphasize how shitty cops are (40% at least are domestic abusers!). I often wonder how many serial killers are the family man type, Robert Hanson, BTK, etc. We get the stories most often of the manipulative monsters like Bundy, the horrors like Panzram and Gacy and Fish. They tell us about the abuse and the bad childhoods and so on, but I would once like them to truly delve into the correlation between the patriarchal head of household and serial killing and sexual assault.…
The Cage-athon: Delving Into Nicolas Cage's Filmography
The Frozen Ground comes after a string of films in Nicolas Cage's oeuvre that could only be called disappointing if you had any expectations to begin with. The things I do for this marathon of Cage's filmography...
As expected, I watched this in the midst of a heavy fit of doubts as to why I'm actually exposing myself to all these terrible movies Cage starred in. It can't be me being a completionist, since I still have enough self-control to not subject myself to his most terrible movies. Throughout the first two decades of his career, there have been plenty of hidden gems in Cage's filmography I might not have discovered otherwise, but…
Horrible movie.
Trigger warning: murder, kidnapping, and rape of women.
Vegan alert:
-Hunting
-Lots of reference to animal heads
Vegan points:
-Dogs are credited (Lucy, Kili, Kaya)
-No animals were harmed in the making of this film.

50 cent looks so weird with mid-length hair.
Had no idea this was based off true story/events.
Enjoyed the cast. Lots of familiar faces.
The filming location was beautiful. Can feel that chilly air through my bones.

Robert Hansen was a serial killer in the 1970's who preyed on women in the northern state of Alaska. Responsible for the deaths of as many as thirty women over a 12 year period he is rightly regarded as one of the most prolific serial killers in American history. With a case so famous and with so much scope for a real look into the psyche of a maniac, why was this so dire?
Nicolas Cage and John Cusack have had similar career paths in recent years. Both have taken paychecks for shitty films and sloppy performances and both could do with a big hit in the quest for a career revival. This unfortunately isn't it. With Cusack as the…
"What's the matter? You never met Crystal before? She's gonna be your best friend."
I went into The Frozen Ground blind, not realizing its roots in Alaskan true crime:
Nic Cage plays 'the good detective'.
Fiddy Cent plays 'the sh!tty pimp' (sportin' quite an unforgettable weave)
& John Cusack plays Robert Hansen; aka 'the reason parents say, "you're not leaving the house dressed like that! Go put some clothes on. & Call me when you get there. & Don't solicit sex or accept rides from male strangers", etc '.
& BOY, IS HE CREEPERTOWN, USA, OR WHAT?!? 😵
The story itself is definitely movie material, but its execution leaves much to be desired. It rocks along at a 2-2.5 for most…
