Watched after seeing A Free Soul (1931) two days prior without realizing that both films draw from the same source material. This interpretation of Adela Rogers St. Johns' novel and the Willard Mack play it inspired is sterile in comparison to its pre-code predecessor, and at 69 minutes feels rushed.

This is a weird movie, It sounds like it'll be a film noir but ends up being an extremely mild almost TV movie melodrama. It's not as intense as it lets on. It also suffers from a range of bad acting (yes even from William Powell) and over acting.

Very short that it feels rushed. Nothing new here.
